Mila Kunis has been in the spotlight for over two decades, and there has never been a time when she wasn’t in great shape. Does she owe her lean physique to a vegan diet?
Mila Kunis isn’t vegan. Her diet includes a lot of fruits and vegetables, but she doesn’t avoid eating meat and fish. Kunis embraced a healthier diet after her second pregnancy, but her meal plan still includes dishes that aren’t 100% plant-based.
Stick around to learn more about Mila Kunis’ diet and meet some of her famous co-stars who adopted a vegetarian lifestyle.
Mila’s Diet and Workout Routine
Mila Kunis became a household name in the late ‘90s, but her diet became a matter of public interest after she starred in Black Swan. This was the most physically demanding project of her career, and she shed 20 pounds to prepare for the role of a professional ballerina.
Kunis discussed her transformation on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, and admitted that she only ate 1,200 calories a day and used some questionable methods to prepare for this role:
“I never watched what I ate [before]. It was one of those things, for the first time in my life, I got a food delivery service. And I’ll tell you this – I’m not promoting this at all – but I used to be a smoker, and so I smoked a lot of cigarettes and I ate a limited amount of calories.”
Kunis quit smoking shortly after this movie wrapped up, and embraced a much healthier lifestyle. She used to work out 5 hours a day, seven days a week before filming Black Swan, but her workout routine is no longer that intense.
According to celebrity trainer Brian Abercrombie, Kunis usually works out three times a week. She made sure to stay active during her pregnancies and switched to light exercises, such as skipping, yoga, and pilates.
The Golden Globe-nominated star is a huge foody and enjoys cooking for her family, but she adopted a healthier diet after her second pregnancy. She ditched high-carb foods and replaced corn flakes, biscuits, and milk chocolate with their healthier alternatives.
According to Business Insider, Kunis’ diet mostly includes low glycemic carbohydrates and a lot of lean protein – including chicken breast and fish. This means she’s definitely not a vegan, but that’s not stopping her from eating healthy.
Kunis’ meal plan comprises of good fats that support weight loss, such as avocado, flaxseed oil, fish oil, and coconut butter. She’s also eating fruits and veggies on a daily basis, and making sure to stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water.
Mila’s Vegan Co-Stars
Mila Kunis isn’t committed to a plant-based diet, but many Hollywood stars that she worked with happen to be either vegan or vegetarian.
Her Black Swan co-star Natalie Portman is the first person that comes to mind because she’s been very outspoken about her vegan lifestyle. The Oscar-winning star admitted that she ate eggs and dairy during her pregnancy, but switched back to veganism after giving birth.
Kunis’ close friend Kristen Bell also had an interesting experience with veganism. She’s been vegetarian since eleven, and tried being vegan for several years but changed her eating habits during pregnancy because her former diet didn’t feel sustainable at the time.
Russell Brand, who starred alongside Kunis and Bell in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, also follows a plant-based diet. He stopped eating meat at 14 and decided to ditch eggs and dairy after watching the 2017 documentary What the Health.
Mila’s Friends with Benefits co-star Woody Harrelson is one of Hollywood’s best-known vegans. He follows a raw vegan diet and avoids sugar and flour, in addition to not eating any meat or dairy.
Kunis also worked with several vegetarian stars on the set of The Spy Who Dumped Me. Kate McKinnon and Justin Theroux don’t eat meat products, while Sam Heughan used to be a vegetarian in his youth but decided to try meat when he was 24.
