Jaden Smith’s History With Music
It is likely that Jaden Smith got into music due to influence from his father. Will was an accomplished rapper and singer.
Will has released five albums, 18 singles, and 20 music videos. He has also worked on music for films as he released the Men in Black theme song in 1997.
He has not released anything recently other than his first single in over ten years, called “Get Lit”, in 2017. He seems to be focusing on his acting career instead.
With Jaden, his career is the opposite. Will started out as a musician and went on to focus on acting. Jaden on the other hand, started out acting and went on to focus on his music.
Jaden’s first experience with releasing music was in 2010 when he raps on Justin Bieber’s song Never Say Never.
The song was used as the theme song for The Karate Kid remake which Jaden Smith starred in. The song made it to number eight on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Following this, Jaden went on to make his own music.
Jaden Smith’s Discography
In 2012, Jaden released his first mixtape titled The Cool Café. The mixtape has 18 songs on it, one song even featuring his sister Willow Smith.
Two years later in 2014, Jaden released the sequel to this mixtape titled CTV2. This mixtape featured only 8 songs, with half of them being collaborations with Willow.
In 2017, Jaden released his first full studio album titled Syre. It debuted at number twenty-four on Billboard’s 200.
Jaden released another version of the album a year later. This version was a guitar-centric rework showing Jaden’s versatility as a musician.
Following this, in 2019, Jaden released his second album titled Erys. This album debuted at number twelve on Billboard’s 200.
Jaden Smith has created quite a few music videos based on singles from these two albums. He releases the videos on his YouTube channel where he has over 2.5 million subscribers.
His most popular single and music video is for the song Icon, with over 130 million views on YouTube alone.
To expand his music career, Jaden Smith has also gone on various tours. He performed on stage for the first time in 2018 at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
He then went on his own headline tour in 2018 across North America. The tour was called Vision Tour and was meant to celebrate the release of Syre.
He has since been on a co-headlining tour with Willow Smith to celebrate the release of Erys in 2019.
He also co-headlined the Igor Tour with Tyler the Creator around North America again, but with three stops in London, UK.
Jaden says his musical influences are artists like Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Kurt Cobain, and Tycho. He also says that his father is a big inspiration.
Jaden said about his father, “I look at him and use it as a blueprint of how good of a person he is, but not necessarily the success that he reached.”
Essentially, success is not Jaden’s goal. He has said he just wants to “wake people up” with his music.
