Most people know Lewis Hamilton as an amazing Formula One driver, but it turns out this isn’t his only talent. He’s also an aspiring musician with a knack for playing instruments, but is piano one of them?
Lewis Hamilton can play the piano, and he demonstrated his ability in several videos that he shared on social media over the years. The British racer can also play the guitar, and he’s been thinking of starting a music career for quite some time.
Stick around to hear Lewis Hamilton play the piano, and find out more about his musical abilities.
Piano Man
Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to giving us a sneak peak into his life on Instagram, and that’s how his piano-playing talent first came to light. He shared his secret talent with the world after learning how to play several instantly recognizable tunes – including Rihanna’s “Stay” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Hamilton acknowledged the fact that he’s far from being a pro, but told his fans that they shouldn’t be discouraged by their failures, because it’s the only way to learn new things.
“I want you to know that I’m not good at everything but I try everything and I give it all my heart. I don’t always show you the steps in which I take to learn things, usually is just the end result of a lot of mistakes just like my racing but it all took practice and mistakes to get me here,” wrote Hamilton on Instagram.
The Formula One star was even brave enough to sit down with Lang Lang, one of the world’s leading concert pianists. Hamilton played a moving rendition of Adele’s “Someone Like You” during their meeting, and said he’s “determined to get better at playing”.
Lang Lang was impressed by Hamilton’s commitment, and played the opening of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” for the famous race driver. He also gave him a couple of pointers after he expressed an interest in improving his piano skills.
Playing the Guitar
The piano isn’t the only instrument that Lewis Hamilton is passionate about. He loves guitars even more, and he reportedly cashed out $100.000 to get his hands on Prince’s iconic gold Fender Stratocaster.
This wasn’t the last time that his love for this instrument made the headlines. Back in 2015, he discussed his passion for music with Charlie Rose on 60 Minutes, and confirmed he’s been playing the guitar since he was thirteen years old.
If you don’t want to take his word for it, there are numerous videos online that prove he has a knack for playing this instrument. A Vodafon ad from 2013 showed him jamming on the guitar, but he also shared several videos on social media doing the same thing.
Passion for Music
During his interview with Charlie Rose in 2015, Hamilton played two songs that he’s been working on, titled “J’Adore” and “Lookin’ at You”. He also revealed that he’s been passionate about music for years, and that he spends a lot of his free time at the studio.
“In here, I can be me. I can be vulnerable. I can show a side of me that people don’t get to see. It started as a hobby, but it’s very serious and we spend a lot of time here,” he explained.
That same year, he also discussed his musical aspirations with James Corden, and told the host that he already played some of his songs to his friends Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. He compared the sound he’s aiming for with The Weeknd’s and Drake’s music.
It’s also been reported that Hamilton was featured on Christina Aguilera’s 2018 track “Pipe”, under the pseudonym XNDA. He never confirmed these rumors, and the world is still waiting for his official music debut.
