Lewis Hamilton made a name for himself as a Formula One driver and won countless trophies over the years, but is it possible he has a musical talent that he’s hiding from the entire world?
Lewis Hamilton can sing and has showcased his talent on several occasions, but he’s yet to officially release any music. It’s widely believed he made his singing debut on Christina Aguilera’s song “Pipe”, but he never personally confirmed these rumors.
Stick around if you want to learn more about Hamilton’s musical aspirations, and his plans to release new music of his own.
Hamilton’s Musical Aspirations
Hamilton discussed his passion for music back in 2015, during an interview with Charlie Rose on CBS News’ 60 Minutes. He played two new songs titled “J’Adore” and “Lookin’ at You”, and explained why he wanted to give music a shot.
He told Rose that he’s been passionate about music from an early age and that he started playing the guitar when he was 13. The six-time Formula One World Champion also said that he spends most of his free time in the studio, because it’s one place where he feels most like himself.
“If I’m not training and getting ready for the race then I’m here. My work ethic is exactly the same here as it is on the race track, but it’s just here I can be me,” explained Hamilton.
British race driver also told Rose that music became more than just a hobby, because it allows him to be vulnerable and show people the side of himself that they’ve never seen before.
Working on New Music
Charlie Rose isn’t the only talk show host who witnessed Hamilton’s musical talent. He also discussed his dream to release new music during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2015.
The Formula One champion said he’s thinking of dropping some songs next year. He admitted he already played them to a couple of his A-list friends, including Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, and described the experience as “nerve-racking”.
Hamilton added that he’s mostly working on R&B tunes, and cited The Weeknd and Drake as his inspiration. He also described music as “a great way to express yourself”, because being a Formula One driver never really allowed him to do that.
Some people criticized Hamilton’s musical aspirations, and said he should stay in his lane. His friend Kanye West didn’t feel that way, and he advised him to do what he loves, even if it doesn’t make other people comfortable.
“He said, ‘You’re big in your racing world but you love your music and people will probably struggle to accept that. You need to do what you love and not give a f— about what anyone thinks,’” Hamilton told City A.M. while discussing his friendship with the famous rapper.
Secret Singing Debut
It’s been years since Lewis Hamilton said he has new music on the way, but the world is still waiting to hear it. He was caught singing at a NYC club, and playing guitar on his Instagram stories, but his first single is still nowhere to be found.
Back in 2018, it finally seemed like Hamilton made his musical debut on Christina Aguilera’s album Liberation. One of the tracks on this record was titled “Pipe” and it featured a mysterious artist XNDA, whose identity has never been confirmed.
Many publications reported that the artists in question could be Lewis Hamilton since he’s been discussing his musical aspirations for years. He also had a chance to meet Aguilera at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and described this as “a cool moment” because he admired her for years. Hamilton still never confirmed he collaborated with Aguilera and said “My sole goal right now and focus is fully Formula One” after the reporters tried to figure out if he was really XNDA.
