Brittany Murphy was an American actress and singer who rose to fame by starring in the cult classic teen comedy ‘Clueless’ and gained critical acclaim for her role in ‘8 Mile’ alongside legendary rapper Eminem. Brittany’s on-screen romance with Eminem was so believable that many wondered if the sparks flew off-screen too.
After meeting on the set of ‘8 Mile’, Brittany Murphy and Eminem enjoyed a brief romance in early 2002. Though neither of them explicitly confirmed their relationship status, as far as the general public is concerned, the pair had an amicable split and remained friends after the break-up.
Both Brittany and Eminem had nothing but nice things to say about one another after their split. Let’s find out more about Brittany and Eminem’s relationship, as well as who else both of them have dated.
How Did Brittany Murphy and Eminem Meet?
Brittany and Eminem met on the set of ‘8 Mile’ in 2002. For those who haven’t seen the film, she played his character’s love interest, Alex.
The pair had never met before they started filming, but Brittany was a big fan of Eminem’s. She told The Morning Call, “I’m a fan… I think that he’s very misunderstood. He’s brilliant. He’s a brilliant young man.”
In the same interview, she was asked if she thought the rapper was nervous to film with her to which she jokingly responded, “You would have to ask him. I don’t want to pop up in some song or something, I’m being careful.”
Eminem and Brittany’s on-screen romance was incredibly believable and left the world at large wondering whether the sparks ignited off-screen too.
Now on a first-name basis, once filming had wrapped up Brittany said, “Marshall is… he’s one of the most funny, honest, professional, hard-working actors I’ve ever worked with, if not the most.”
Neither Brittany nor Eminem ever actually confirmed that they had dated, but the pair remained on good terms after their romance fizzled out. Brittany joked, “I’ll never be Mrs. Marshall Mathers.”
A year after her death, Eminem told MTV, “At one point, we were very close, and she was a really good person” and a decade later he described her as “a good person, a super-nice girl. She was very down-to-earth, she’d talk to anybody.”
Brittany Murphy’s Ex-Boyfriends
Eminem was Brittany’s second boyfriend, at least as far as the general public is aware. Brittany’s first known beau was Jonathan Brandis, who she took to her high school prom.
After Eminem, in late 2002, Brittany began dating her ‘Just Married’ co-star, Ashton Kutcher. The next year she and Limp Bizkit’s frontman Fred Durst got together.
She had also been engaged twice, once to talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz and once to Joe Macaluso who was working as a production assistant on the set of ‘Little Black Book’, but neither engagement ended in holy matrimony.
Brittany finally tied the knot in April of 2007 to a British screenwriter called Simon Monjack, who she remained married to until she tragically died.
She said of her husband, who died five months after her in the same bathroom and under similar circumstances, “The easiest decision I ever made in my life was getting married. He’s flown around the world to make sure we spend every single night together.”
Eminem’s Ex-Girlfriends
Unlike Brittany, who was no stranger to having her love life splashed across the tabloids, Eminem has managed to keep most of his private affairs, well, private.
Of course, his most infamous relationship was with his on-again-off-again girlfriend and ex-wife Kimberly Scott. The pair had a tumultuous relationship that Eminem has referenced in plenty of his songs.
Eminem was rumored to have dated Tara Reid back in 2014, and he confirmed this in his song ‘Kamikaze’. Similarly, Eminem released an entire diss track about his secret 6-month relationship with Mariah Carey called ‘The Warning’.
He’s also allegedly dated video vixen Karrine Steffans, Britney Spears, Tracy McNew, and Kendra Jade Rossi though he has never confirmed these rumors, he hasn’t denied them either.
