The English actor and producer Tom Hardy is known for giving convincing performances for each of the characters he plays. Does Hardy have tattoos?
Tom Hardy has a lot of tattoos. Hardy gets tattoos to signify big, meaningful events or changes in his life, but also gets them just for fun or for no particular reason. Hardy has over thirty separate tattoos, both large and small.
Read more below to find out the meanings behind some of Hardy’s tattoos or why he got them, as well as other heavily tattooed celebrities.
Hardy’s Many Tattoos
With the improvements in makeup and application technique used in movies, it’s difficult to tell if the tattoos of an actor are real or not. Tom Hardy’s tattoos are decidedly real, if only because of the sheer amount of them, but can still be completely covered by talented makeup artists, which is shown in posts like this one.
Hardy has a distinct personality, known for being a mix of blunt and humorous. Tattoos are a part of him and reflect both the instant dedication he has to his work and life, as well as including moments of levity by getting new ink just because he feels like it.
When Hardy was just fifteen years old, he had the image of a leprechaun tattooed on his right arm, signifying his Irish heritage that he got from his mom, Ann Hardy, who is an artist and painter. The leprechaun was later covered with a tribal design that looks like this.
That tattoo must have been one of the first he got, if not the very first. After that, though, it’s hard to tell the order in which he got his tattoos since there are so many and always seem to be new ones.
Above his left collarbone, he has “Padre Fiero” written in cursive, which means “Proud Father” in Italian. Underneath the tribal tattoo on his right arm, he also has the cursive words “Figlio Mio Bellissimo,” which means “my beautiful son,” also in Italian.
Hardy has gotten many tattoos for his significant others over the years, but has not regretted them or made any attempts to cover them up. For his ex-wife, Sarah Ward, he has “Till I Die SW” written in script on the side of his stomach, and also got a tattoo of a dragon on his left arm since she was born in the year of the dragon.
“That’s what you call a mistake tattoo,” Hardy said later, laughing it off. He now has “Charlotte” written on his shoulder above his “Padre Fiero” tattoo, for his wife Charlotte Riley.
After losing a bet with Leonardo DiCaprio that he wouldn’t get an Oscar nomination they made while filming The Revenant, Hardy got a tattoo that reads “LEO KNOWS ALL” in big, block letters.
That’s not the first time that Hardy has promised a tattoo to someone, as he also has “Lindy” written underneath the dragon on his left arm, after his agent, Lindy King. He had told her that if she got him into Hollywood, he would get a tattoo of her name.
Those are just a few of Hardy’s many tattoos. Which other celebrities have the same affinity for getting inked?
Tattooed Celebrities
Hardy isn’t the only famous entertainer with a boatload of tattoos. While many people have one or two, it’s less common for people to have over thirty like Hardy, or to even lose count like the Australian model and actress Ruby Rose, who has more than sixty tattoos.
The retired English soccer star David Beckham also has many tattoos, as does the actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian Angelina Jolie.
Celebrities who are also heavily tattooed include the drummer for the band Blink-182, Travis Barker, Johnny Depp, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Adam Levine, and more.
