Ace Up The Sleeve
There are many famous and successful YouTubers all over the world. In the years since the platform gained mass popularity, the trend of career YouTubers has skyrocketed. We’ve seen sports personalities, comedy acts, gaming superstars, and vloggers in huge droves.
While we’ve also seen ‘couples’ channels, it’s very rare to see a whole family making videos together. This is where The ACE Family enters the scene. At the start of 2016, the Family created their profile and began to upload videos.
The world didn’t expect their success; by 2020, they’d have almost twenty million subscribers. Further, they’d be drawing in around five million dollars a year from the platform. The family would have launched merchandise lines and even products such as flavored drinks.
It’s likely that if you’re not a frequent visitor to YouTube, you’ll never have heard of the Family. Aside from releasing some music, they’ve not done too much off the platform. Their daily lives are broadcast for all to see, but they’ve not expanded outside of YouTube.
The candid content they put on their channel has proved a success with fans over and over. Their no-holds-barred daily reveals of their lives permit all their fans to see exactly how they live.
It was mere months after the launch of their channel that their first child was born, in May of 2016. Of course, the entire process and arrival of the child was captured on video.
The father of the family, Austin, had a strong background in sports. He played in the NCAA, for St. Louis University, and also enjoyed baseball and soccer. This sporting history likely provided him a little seed money for the YouTube project.
It took the family just over a year to gain a million subscribers. The rate at which they grew climbed exponentially, and just one year after that, they had ten million subscribers. By 2020, four years after they had started, The ACE Family boasted almost twenty million subscribers.
Controversy On The Cards
As with most lives lived in the spotlight, The ACE Family often had their ‘dirty laundry’ aired for all to see. They were far from without their own struggle and controversy, and often received a considerable amount of bad press.
At times, the bad publicity was so negative that they were forced to go on hiatus. The majority of their controversies were related directly to their channel and content, but some were more serious by far.
In 2018, the Family had a very rough time, with controversies landing thick and fast. In June, the Family backpedaled on a promise to donate a considerable sum of money for a charitable event. Instead, they cut their donation by twenty-five percent, for no real reason.
Toward the end of the summer of 2018, Austin himself came under direct fire. There were several tweets uncovered from his Twitter history that he’d made, that were racist. He was called out for these tweets, but they were subsequently deleted without a response.
Most damning of all was the accusation that Austin was sexualizing young children. In January of 2019, a video surfaced on Austin’s Instagram. In this video, he was shown taking a young child into an adult store to purchase a suggestively-shaped lollipop. This video was slammed, particularly as the child wasn’t one of Austin’s.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Family fell prey to ‘cancel culture’ in mid-2020. There was a video released that showed Austin spanking his daughter, while allegedly making rude comments. This has given rise to claims of abuse and pedophilia, something which could devastate the family, true or not.
However, just a month later, the family was back to their usual antics. They were uploading videos without any issue, such as one wherein the parents – Austin and Catherine – discuss buying a new car. You can see this video on YouTube below.
