Who is Shaquille O’Neal?
Shaquille O’Neal was born in New Jersey in 1972. His father Tony is a former basketball player, however, he fell into drugs and was sentenced to prison while O’Neal was still a child.
O’Neal was raised by his mother and stepfather Phil after his father relinquished his parental rights. “I had a good life. I had Phil,” he says of his childhood.
His stepfather had a military career which meant the family relocated multiple times, spending time at a military base in Germany.
He eventually reunited with his biological father in 2016.
He was educated at Robert G. Cole High School in San Antonio, where he joined the school basketball team. After high school, he enrolled in Louisiana State University to study business.
Career
During his time at college, O’Neal was awarded Player of the Year. He did not complete his studies, choosing instead to focus on an NBA career.
He went on to prove his ability while playing for the Orlando Magic, and in only his first week playing in the league won Player of the Week. He is the only NBA player to achieve this.
He joined the LA Lakers in 1996 in a $120 million deal, with the team taking home the win from the Olympics that same year. He played on the All-NBA First Team from 1998 to 2006.
In the following years, O’Neal played for the Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics. His season with the Boston Celtics, however, became his final season as a basketball player when he suffered an achilles injury.
In June 2011, he retired from the sport, announcing the news on Twitter.
Following his retirement as an athlete, he became a TV analyst for the sport.
Car Collection
O’Neal’s Orlando home has a garage that’s believed to fit 17 cars.
His luxurious lifestyle is illustrated on his Instagram page, where he occasionally shares snaps of his cars.
The star has a penchant for lavish vehicles, but his size sometimes gets in the way. At just over 7 feet tall and with size 22 feet, fitting inside a sports car can sometimes be a squeeze.
O’Neal certainly appreciates a sports car, however, and has owned a Lamborghini Gallardo which had to be customized to accommodate his size. He also counts a Ferrari F355 amongst his list of vehicles, with this one having to be stretched to fit him inside.
With smaller cars presenting issues, O’Neal is understandably a fan of trucks. He owns a Big Hoffa which is personalized with his images and emblazoned with ‘#SHAQ’, and he had his Play Big truck modified to be even bigger.
The former basketball player is a big fan of modifications and often uses West Coast Customs to carry out this work for him.
He owns vehicles from a number of luxury manufacturers, including Rolls Royce. He ordered the car with custom wheel rims and waited six months for it to be complete.
One of his more comfortable vehicles is his Sprinter, which is kitted out with leather seats, TV screens, and wood floors. The van was gifted to him and is said to be worth around $90 thousand.
A handful of his vehicles combine two of his loves; cars, and Superman. His Range Rover displays the Superman logo in its front grill, customization he’s also had added to his Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet G1500.
