Surprising to some, Amy Schumer and Chuck Schumer are in-fact related. Many know Amy Schumer as an American actress and stand-up comedian. This is why her relation to United States Senator, Chuck Schumer is so astounding to many. The two are actually second cousins once removed, with Amy’s father being Chuck’s cousin.
With a quite substantial age gap between the two public figures, it is interesting to see where the overlap began with their careers. In two completely different networking circles, one in politics and one in Hollywood, both parties managed to support each other throughout.

Stand-up comedian Amy Schumer made her official debut in Hollywood during the mid-2000s. After years of stage performances, trying to get her name out there, she finally had her breakthrough in 2007.
The NBC TV reality show Last Comic Standing was where Schumer finished fourth and gained a lot of exposure.
This experience allowed her to move into the movie industry, taking the leading roles in many productions. She soon became known for pushing society’s boundaries and opening fans’ eyes to a lot of hidden topics.

Chuck Schumer has been in politics since 1980 when he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives and served from 1981 to 1999. Residing in New York, Chuck represents the state proudly as part of the Democratic party.
He later went on to become Senate Minority Leader, which he has held since 2017. During his time in office, Schumer has done a lot for his community and the country as a whole.
The fight against violence has been one of the senators’ biggest focuses over the years. Some of his biggest achievements have been delivering $20 billion after the 9-11 attacks, as well as $63 billion to aid with the immense damage done by Hurricane Sandy.
Many feel that Chuck Schumer has been a man of action, to get things done and make a difference.
From Campaigns to Red Carpets
The two public figures have been supporting each other for years, regardless of their difference in career paths. After the 2015 Lafayette shooting during a showing of Amy’s movie Trainwreck, the two paired up against gun violence.
The two held many news conferences during this time to push for stricter gun-control laws. However, since 2015 there doesn’t seem to have been any other efforts made as a duo.

Recently Amy Schumer has come to defend her second cousin after a press conference on immigration. During his speech, the politician shed tears of sadness for the “un-American” actions of President Trump.
The president went on to shame him for crying, calling the Senator out for “fake tears”. The stand-up comedian was outraged, posting on Instagram, “…Also I know chuck Schumer and HE CANNOT act trust me.
He can barely smile on cue. He can’t help but be transparent and genuine. He was hurt for those people and all the people facing such unconstitutional injustice…”.
Family Comes First
It is unknown as to what is to come from the two Schumers and their efforts to use their platforms for good. We may see them team up again in the future, to bring awareness and change.
As of 2020, they are both sticking to their own professions and focusing on their own projects. The Hollywood actress hasn’t announced any future projects yet, but we have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of her.
