Eminem is left-handed. Fans have been able to spot Eminem’s left-handedness in the movie 8 Mile as well as in his music videos.
There are several big names in music who are left handed. And if you were to take a close look at the hand Eminem uses to hold the mic, you’ll quickly see that he’s one of them.
Left Handed and Creativity
Eminem (aka Marshall Bruce Mathers III) joins the likes of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Paul McCartney as a left handed artist.
Only 10% of the world is left handed, and that might make them a little special. Science suggests that people who use both hands (i.e. their left hand as much as their right) have a tendency to “prefer obscure styles of music.”
This is obviously an advantageous trait for an artist to have and this preference has done well for musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain.
It actually stands to reason that some of our favorite left handed musicians are innovators—innovators who have pushed music in new and exciting directions.
It seems like Eminem is aware of this and is a proud left-hander. If you listen closely to his song “Kings Never Die,” you’ll hear this in the lyrics: “I write with the left, same hand I hold the mic with as I fight to the death.”
