Country music star Faith Hill has opened up on many occasions about being adopted. She is an advocate for adoption and has felt that she was adopted in a very loving home.
Faith Hill was adopted by Ted and Edna Perry when she was only 2 days old, in September 1967. Her adoption was never kept a secret from her and from the beginning she embraced it as a big part of her life. Over the years she has shared her experience in multiple interviews.
Adoptive Parents
Faith Hill’s adoptive parents were Mississippi natives Ted and Edna Perry. Already having two sons, the couple wanted to adopt a girl and Faith came along. The Perry family gave Faith a happy and fulfilling childhood and supported her every step of the way. Hill credits her parents for her unwavering morals and her strong Christian upbringing.
Faith grew up in a large family, her father was a factory worker and her mother was a bank teller. Faith had two adoptive brothers who adored her and welcomed her to the family.
With being adopted, Hill faced some internal issues in wondering who she really was and in an interview with Billboard, Faith confessed, “I have a great family: salt of the earth, hardworking. But I’m a gypsy at heart. I had a spirit that was completely outside what my family was. I didn’t know anyone I was related to, biologically, which gives you a sense of not knowing who you are.”
Faith’s parents supported her when she dropped out of college to pursue music as a career. They also supported her when she started wondering about her birth parents and helped her when she made an effort to find them.
Birth Parents
Faith was told by her adoptive parents that she was a product of an illegitimate affair and that her father didn’t want to acknowledge her. Faith later found out this was untrue and set to look out for her birth parents.
At the age of 19 Faith moved to Nashville and when she wasn’t working or recording in the studio she was looking for her birth family and eventually found them. Hill said, “The first time I met my birth mother, I just stared at her” and that she had never seen anyone who looked so much like her. After meeting her birth mother a lot about her personality started making sense to faith, such as her artistic and music sense as her mother was an artist.
By the time Faith found her birth mother, her birth father had passed away but she found out that her parents had stayed together and she hadn’t been the product of an illegitimate affair. Faith’s birth parents couldn’t support her when she was born so they put her up for adoption. They eventually got married and had a child together- Faith’s brother Zachary White.
Her Brother had many run-ins with the law before Faith came into his life. He had gotten in trouble for stealing purses and cars to fuel his drug addiction. Faith was excited to meet him and build a relationship with him and helped him recover and proved a vital role in turning his life around.
Tim McGraw
Faith met her husband Tim McGraw after getting divorced from her ex husband, Daniel Hill. McGraw is also a big name in country music and the two became country music’s power couple. Faith Hill’s story could have ended up in many different ways. She has been happily married to him for over two years and the two seem stronger than ever. Faith and Tim have raised three beautiful daughters- Gracie, Maggie and Audrey.
The country music starlet had a great adoptive experience and can be seen speaking up in favour of adoption on many different occasions.
