Kamala Harrish is a pioneer in her own right. Not only was she the first woman, first African-American and first person of South-East Asian descent to hold office in California but she was also running in the 2020 presidential election, before abruptly pulling out in December 2019.
Despite all of her achievements, Kamala was never in the military. Born to Jamaican and Indian immigrants and being raised in a black Baptist church and a Hindu temple gave Kamala a diverse outlook on life.
Born in Oakland, Kamala graduated with a law degree from the University of California. Between 2011 – 2016 Kamala was the Attorney General of California before serving in the US Senate until the present day. As an advocate for the people, you can read about some of her policies and beliefs below.
“Kamala Harris- For The People”
In her early career working as a deputy district attorney in Oakland, Kamala earned a reputation for being a force to reckon with. Her hard line approach to prosecuting gang violence, drug trafficking and sexual abuse gained her popularity and saw her move through the ranks.
Kamala has built her presidential campaign with the American people at the heart. Her agenda proposes solutions that would have an important and immediate effect on American lives, paychecks and health care.
America’s war has spanned the past 18 years and have seen more than 3 million service members deployed since the September 11 Twin Tower attacks. Kamala holds a firm stance that the American government must be there to support the service members, veterans and their families just as they have served for America.
In the youtube video below, Kamala discusses Trump’s threats to use the military against the American people.
Support For Veterans
The Trump administration has come under strong scrutiny from Kamala as she brings to light the incredibly high suicide rate of veterans. Questions have been raised about his tactics that Trump has used to target military service members with harsh immigration policies and his handling of the shockingly high opioid abuse the veterans suffer.
Kamala is here to change this. With a firm belief that anyone who serves for their country deserves much better treatment than what they are currently receiving. Legislation has been introduced to ensure that the essentials are covered; military housing and high health and safety standards are upheld. Foster children would also be able to access any unused benefits their parents may have had.
Further Reforms For Military Members.
And she doesn’t stop there! For those who were discharged with “other-than-honourable” reasons, Kamala is a firm supporter that they should receive the same health care and housing assistance. Through this change, across to health care and housing will be made available to more than 500,000 veterans.
Her belief is that all military families need to be offered strong support before, during, and after deployment. New economic and educational opportunities will be prioritized so that service members can make the transition from service to home smoother. Finally, all members of the military should be treated in a fair and equal manner.
Fake Quotes
Rumours of Kamala quoting “Our military are soulless cowards. Their budget must be cut” came to light after her rise to national prominence as a 2020 presidential candidate. This is just one of many fake quotes which have been debunked as false, in an attempt to crush Kamala’s credibility.
There’s no denying that Kamala is a trailblazer of a leader. When asked what her motto in life is, she says “A saying my mother had, ‘You may be the first, but make sure you’re not the last.” Whilst she never served in the U.S military, she has been a strong campaigner for service members’ rights.
