Hollywood sweetheart and Golden Globe winner Jamie Lee Curtis is a household name throughout the country, so it’s fairly reasonable to wonder where she got her start.
Curtis made her film debut in the movie “Halloween” in which she played the soft bookish babysitter Laurie Strode. This film was a huge success and was regarded as the highest-grossing independent film at the time, earning it accolades as a classic horror movie.
Read more below about Curtis’ time on Halloween and her personal life.
Jamie’s Time on Halloween
Jamie was fortunate to have her breakout role in the movie Halloween as this franchise went on to produce 4 sequels, each of them starring Jamie in the part of Laurie Strode. She played Laurie again in Halloween II (1981), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002), and Halloween (2018).
Jamie had no idea that Halloween would become such a phenomenon and said that creating Halloween was exhilarating. She stated that seeing her character’s name on every page of the script truly made her feel like she was immersed in the role, and she found it thrilling to actually create something as a character.
When asked in an interview whether she was hesitant in doing a Halloween update after forty years, she responded that she loved working on it and that she viewed it as David Gordon Green and Danny McBride honoring the trauma that Laurie went through and giving an update.
Halloween was Jamie’s rise to fame and her acting in the movie awarded her with the title of “Scream Queen” and helped her secure numerous roles in horror movies such as Prom Night and Terror Train.
Early Life
Born to famous parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, one would think that Jamie was bound to be a star, but this was not the case. Jamie always viewed herself as not being enough for Hollywood, but thankfully, she joined the industry and shared her talent with the world.
In 1962, when Jamie was only 4 years old, her parents divorced. After the divorce, Jamie stated that her father was never around and had no interest in being a father.
Jamie was only 19 when she rose to fame and became known as Hollywood’s horror girl and landed role after role in the genre, and for a while, it became her niche. Jamie’s mother also starred in Hitchcock’s “Psycho” so it is no surprise that Jamie excelled in horror films.
Marriage and Children
While Jamie’s parents’ marriage ended in shambles, her marriage is far from it. Jamie married her husband, Christopher Guest, on December 18, 1984. Before even meeting Guest, she told her friend, “Oh, I’m going to marry that guy” and ended up marrying him 5 months later.
Jamie and her husband adopted two kids who Jamie can’t stop raving about. Her son Thomas and her daughter Annie can often be spotted on the red carpet alongside her. Jamie took an incredibly different approach to parenting than her parents had and was an active part of her children’s lives. She helped Thomas out with cosplay costumes and took Annie to all her dance lessons growing up and was overall a role model to both her children.
Jamie also struggled with addiction and has opened up about it on various occasions. She views being sober as her most significant achievement in life even more than her husband and children and all her acting accolades. She has been sober for over 20 years now and is vocal about her struggles.
What’s to come?
We can’t wait to see what else Jamie has in store and will be first in line to buy tickets for her new Halloween movie releasing in October 2020.
