Who is Wendy Williams?
Wendy Williams was born in 1964 in New Jersey. She was a loud child who did not excel academically, a stark contrast to her sibling Wanda, who had a more studious attitude.
Williams did show promise as a swimmer, however, and competed on behalf of her school. Outside of school, Williams played clarinet and was a Girl Scout.
She explains that her childhood had its challenges. “I didn’t grow up the popular girl or the popular cheerleader. I’ve never been to a prom, I didn’t have a lot of boyfriends,” she says.
“I was tortured,” she says, referring to comments made about her weight. She recalls being unhappy about her appearance and picking up attitudes around beauty from her mother.
“My mother’s lesson to me regarding womanhood was about being as beautiful as you can at all times,” she said later in life.
After high school, she studied communications and journalism, enrolling at Northeastern University in Boston. She completed her studies in 1986.
During her time at college, she got her first taste of presenting on the university’s radio station. After graduation, she began working as a radio DJ, firstly in the Virgin Islands and next in New York.
Williams was given a show named after her, ‘The Wendy Williams Experience’, which amassed an audience of more than 12 million listeners.
TV opportunities soon came, and in 2008, ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ first appeared on TV screens. The show was a hit and is now broadcast in countries across the globe.
It has been nominated for Emmy awards and on average, achieves viewership of 1.8 million per episode. The show openly discusses celebrity gossip, with Wiliams joking that she loves “Intruding in on the lives of celebrities.”
She found herself on the other side of celebrity gossip, however, when she split from her husband of 25 years, Kevin Hunter. The divorce was finalized in January 2020.
“Kevin had a major indiscretion that he will have to deal with for the rest of his life,” she explained to The New York Times, however she insisted that she would not publicly speak negatively about her ex-husband.
Despite this experience, Williams’ beliefs on the sharing of celebrity gossip remain the same. “Celebrities have a right to privacy. My approach has never been that I’m prying,” she says, explaining that she doesn’t share information that’s told to her in private, but would share behavior that plays out in a public setting.
“If you’re a celebrity, and you invite me over for dinner, I’m not talking about that. But if I’m at a party, and you’re there with somebody other than your wife, I’m calling my Hot Topics bureau to make sure we talk about that on the show.”
Enjoying this gossip, she says “Takes people’s minds off their own troubles.”
She says that she’ll be remembered for her bold opinions and “Saying it like I mean it.”
“I want to go down [in history] as being the realest who ever talked it.”
Cancer Zodiac Sign
Those born between June 21st and July 22nd have the cancer zodiac sign. With Williams’ birthday falling on July 18th, she shares the same zodiac sign as celebrities including Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray.
Those with the cancer zodiac sign are said to be outwardly tough but beyond this, can be very sensitive. They’re known to have a loyal nature and are therefore protective of their loved ones.
While some believe in astrology, which uses the alignment of the stars to predict a person’s personality traits, others are skeptical.
Believers in astrology claim that cancers can have dramatic mood swings, caused by them being ruled by the moon. They’re also thought to be secretive.
