Back in the 90s, boy bands were such a big thing and were almost like a trend. One group that was definitely the most unique was NSYNC, but what was their first song?
NSYNC’s first song was the lead single “I Want You Back” from their debut album. The single became one of the band’s biggest Billboard hits after securing a position within the top ten at number seven.
Read more below about the formation of NSYNC and the progress they made throughout their short lived career as a band.
Who Is NSYNC?
NSYNC is the stage name for the five member boy band that was derived from the last letter of each band member’s first name. The name is sometimes stylized as ‘N Sync and *NSYNC. The artists who formed NSYNC were Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance “Lansten” Bass and JC Chasez.
The band was most active between 1995 and 2002. The boy band never officially broke up, however they parted ways around 2002 after announcing a temporary hiatus, but five years later band member Lance revealed in his book Out Of Sync that they’d definitely broken up.
Why Did They Disband?
While there’s no official statement detailing why the group chose to disband, a statement that Timberlake provided in this interview with The Hollywood Reporter might provide some insight.
“I just felt like the whole thing was too big…And, also, I was growing out of it. I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group…I needed to follow my heart.”
All in all, it seems that the band members had simply outgrown each other.
But the other band members have spoken out about why they thought the band disbanded in this interview. Many of the band members weren’t expecting the split, but it seems that they all agree it was time for something new.
Chasez said the breakup happened “organically” and that they’d “exhausted” all their ideas so it was time for something new.
Meanwhile, Fatone was under the impression that they’d reunite after Timberlake did his thing however he found it odd that there was never any type of communication to say they’d never get back together.
Kirkpatrick added “I don’t know if I was ready for it to end.” But according to Bass, it was a peaceful breakup. There was no big fight or dramatic ending.
NSYNC’s Famous Songs
NSYNC were a very successful band while they were active. But what are some of their most famous songs?
Some of their famous songs include “I Drive Myself Crazy”, “Pop”, “Gone”, and “Girlfriend” ft. Nelly.
Life After NSYNC
After the group disbanded, the members went their separate ways and pursued their own careers separately. Let’s take a look at what the former band members went on to do.
Following the band’s split, Sanchez launched his own career as a solo artist however this was short lived after his debut album didn’t perform as well as expected. JC Chasez went on to become a songwriter for other artists and even helped to form the girl band Girl Radical.
Meanwhile Fatone went in a completely different direction and became a TV personality appearing in The Singing Bee and Celebrity Circus. He also appeared as the Rabbit on The Masked Singer as well.
As for Bass, he chose to live a life away from music and instead he hosts his own radio show Dirty Pop with Lance Bass. Fellow bandmate Kirkpatrick tried to stay out of the limelight as much as possible and prefers to live a normal life with his wife and kids.
And then there’s Timberlake who has probably had the most successful career in music out of all of them as he has become a Grammy award winning artist producing chart topping hits.
