America’s sweetheart and star of both “Pretty Woman” and “Notting Hill,” Julia Roberts is an accomplished actress and massive box-office draw. So, where does this “Pretty Woman” stay when she’s not on set?
Julia Roberts lives in Malibu, California, with her husband, Danny Moder, and her children. She also has an extensive real estate portfolio that includes a vacation home in Kauai, Hawaii, three apartments in Manhattan, New York, and a ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
Julia Roberts is definitely involved in the real estate business, often buying and reselling homes such as her other house in Malibu, California. If you’re interested in learning all about this A-list actress’s real estate portfolio and homes, here’s the scoop.
Homes in Malibu, California
Julia Roberts owns a stunning home in Malibu, California, although she grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.
Velvet Ropes reports that Julia Roberts purchased her home in 2008 for $6.4 million. The house is over 6,000 square feet.
Little is known about the property other than the beautiful gate and landscaping, as Julia Roberts is incredibly private and her security is notoriously tight. However, more information is publicly available about the actress’s former second house in Malibu.
Yes, you read that right, two homes in Malibu! Apparently, when you have a net worth of around $250 million, a couple of homes are just a drop in the bucket.
Julia Roberts also owned another home in Malibu up until 2020. She originally purchased her second Malibu property in 2016 for $7.4 million and sold the property in 2020 to her neighbor for $8 million.
Luckily, Julia Roberts did not have to move too far — her second home was located across the street from her main Malibu residence!
Dirt reported that the home features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as lush outdoor areas. Although the home is relatively modest (at least for the millionaire set), the value of the home lies in its land, as it rests on 1.2 acres of beautiful California land.
Apparently, their neighbor purchased the home to incorporate it into his existing property.
Vacation Home in Kauai, Hawaii
In addition to her permanent address, Julia Roberts also owned a vacation property in Kauai, Hawaii.
However, according to The Los Angeles Times, she sold the vacation home in 2016 for $16.2 million.
The beachfront property was listed at a whopping $30 million, and Julia Roberts originally purchased the home for $13.375 million.
The scenic vacation home clocks in with just under 3,800 square feet of living space and has seven bedrooms and four bathrooms; it was built in the early 1900s.
Who purchased the property? None other than Mike Fleiss of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” fame.
Hopefully, Mike Fleiss will enjoy the combined ocean and mountain views — and maybe invite some lucky people to the guesthouse!
Next “Bachelorette” shooting location? Yes, please.
Other Real Estate Investments
Julia Roberts is no stranger to the real estate game. She’s invested in numerous properties across the United States, including in New York City, Venice, California, and Taos, New Mexico.
In fact, Variety reports that Julia Roberts actually sold two of her New York properties, leaving her with a meager (read: jaw-dropping) three properties left in the city.
She sold off one of her original five properties to actress Holly Hunter for $4.1 million in 2005, who in turn sold it for almost double the price in 2014, for $7.6 million.
Then, in 2015, Julia Roberts sold another one of her New York properties for $5.35 million — a stunning penthouse with 2,400 square feet of living space. This sale is especially notable because she managed to sell the apartment well above her original asking price of $4.5 million.
Outside of New York City, Julia Roberts also sold a property in Venice, California, for $3 million to actor Tim Robbins.
Despite these sales, Julia Roberts still owns several properties, including her remaining Malibu home and her three properties in New York. She also owns a jaw-droppingly large 100-acre ranch near Taos, New Mexico, where she married her husband, Danny Moder, in 2002.
Julia Roberts is certainly invested in her real estate holdings, as evidenced by her substantial portfolio — now that’s “Something to Talk About.” Hopefully, she’ll have a wide “Mona Lisa Smile” every time that she thinks about all her beautiful homes.
