Morgan Freeman in the Film Industry
Morgan Freeman was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and was the youngest of five children. He was raised in a low-income family and the family, except for Morgan, later moved to Chicago to look for work.
Morgan stayed with his grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi while the family relocated, but after her death when he was six years old, he had to follow his family back up north.
Because the family struggled financially, Morgan was on his own to scrap together his own money for things he wanted. From a young age, Morgan would earn his own money and would frequently take himself to see movies.
He formed an early admiration for acting and as a junior in high school, he was ordered to participate in a school’s drama competition as punishment after pulling out a chair from underneath one of his classmates.
To everyone’s surprise, Freeman ended up having a natural talent for acting and even ended up taking top honors in the competition.
Although Morgan Freeman loved acting, his true passion at the time was becoming a fighter pilot. After high school, he was offered a drama scholarship but ended up turning it down to join the US Air Force.
He soon realized that being part of the US Air Force was nothing as he imagined, and decided to leave the Air Force to seek out small acting jobs. He took acting classes and had a hard time finding work.
In the early 1960s, he moved to New York City where he was finally able to find some small day jobs and nighttime auditions.
He landed a role in an all-African American Broadway production of “Hello Dolly!” and was able to get national exposure in 1971 as he started appearing regularly on “The Electric Company”, a public television-produced children’s TV show.
For the next decade, Freeman took on some smaller roles, but never parts that would give him A-list celebrity attention. He even took on narrator roles but it wasn’t until 1987 when Freeman finally got his big breakthrough “Street Smart”.
He earned an Oscar Award nomination and everyone seemed to love his booming and deep voice, especially. More big opportunities came along with “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Seven”, “Bruce Almighty” and “Deep Impact”.
The next two decades were filled with massive success, as Morgan won an Oscar for “Million Dollar Baby”, a Golden Globe for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”, another Oscar Award for “Invictus” and even the National Medal of Arts in 2016 by Barack Obama.
Morgan Freeman’s Mississippi Home
Morgan Freeman’s career has spanned over 40 years, and he is still going strong in the Hollywood entertainment industry. The actor has chosen to stick near his roots and currently resides on a 124-acre ranch in Mississippi.
Morgan has stated in an interview that Mississippi is just where he feels the happiest, and he actually purchased his property from his parents back in 1991 and built a larger home years after. The home is located just outside the town of Charleston and is the perfect escape from his busy Hollywood lifestyle.
Morgan’s home is spacious, featuring a large pool and enough space to equip plenty of visitors while being surrounded by nature, with gorgeous tree-dense landscaping and a small lake. When he learned about the honeybee population quickly decreasing, he turned part of his property into a bee sanctuary, as well.
Morgan has not done any formal interviews about his home and has kept his address completely private, although aerial views of his home show off the stunning Mississippi views and the home’s big layout.
