Surviving R. Kelly
Right after the release of the documentary, the accusations against Kelly became stronger and more tangible, ending with his arrest. In this documentary, multiple women accused the singer of sexually abusing them; some of them were underage at the time.
As expected, Kelly denied all the accusations on the docuseries. Unfortunately, he couldn’t avoid federal charges of alleged sex crimes, racketeering, child pornography, and more.
The court has not yet rendered a verdict on the case of R. Kelly already has denied bail petitions two different times.
The first time in August 2019, the court denied the bail, as risks of witness tampering or Kelly trying to flee were too big.
Once again in April 2020, R. Kelly’s attorney requested the release of his client due to concerns that he might contract the CoVID disease. However, a federal judge in New York denied this request because the reasons behind his incarceration had not changed in any way for that time.
A Life of Bad Decisions
The controversies of the singer of “I Believe I Can Fly” go back to the ‘90s, when his leanings towards teenage girls appeared in the press. Despite all the controversy, he managed to release hit after hit, even in prison.
Back in 1994, he married the now deceased singer Aaliyah when she was only 15 years old. Of course, the ceremony was secret and the young female singer lied about her age, saying she was 18 at that time.
After that, the performer got accused of mistreating many underage girls and taking sexual advantage of them.
For example, his intern Tracy Sampson filed charges against the singer for inducing her into an indecent sexual relationship. Years after in 2002, the singer had to face the court again for 21 different charges related to child pornography.
The court let him off the hook. Yet, the accusations kept coming when multiple girls decided to break the silence about their relationship with Kelly.
In 2018, all the scandals finally damaged his career, as the #MuteRKelly campaign forced the record label RCA to end all ties with the singer. Also, music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music took down all his songs from their platforms.
In 2019 things got worse for the singer, as two different federal indictments hit Kelly again. Apparently, he recruited and transported underage girls for illegal sexual purposes.
In the Outside World
Before being in jail, the famous singer and producer used to live in Chicago in an 11,140 square foot mansion. Even though the house is amazing and huge, many rumors say that he actually owes a lot of money to his landlord.
That’s not a surprise since the net worth of R. Kelly is as low as $100K due to all the money he spends on lawsuits.
In his former home, the singer used to keep a relationship with at least two different girls known as Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary.
Both of these girls are now living with their parents. Although they previously denied being victims of any kind of oppression, they now have presented charges against the singer.
