Zac Efron, being the multi-talented person that he is, is able to do a lot of things. He has been seen speaking Spanish sporadically over the years, and this makes people wonder whether he is able to fluently speak Spanish.
It’s thought that Zac Efron can only speak a little bit of Spanish. He is able to speak basic sentences but is yet to prove fluency in the language. Zac studied Spanish when he was in high school. However, he still needs a little help whenever he speaks Spanish on the air.
Let’s take a look at when and where Zac has spoken Spanish in the past!
Zac Efron Has Quite the Connection With Spain
Zac actually has an immense fan following in Spain. Most of his movies are dubbed into the Spanish language and are quite popular in the country. As expected, Zac did not voice himself in the Spanish version of the film. Zac does not speak proper Spanish, and we doubt he would have done the Spanish dubbing even if he could.
However, Zac actually got to meet his Spanish self at the premiere of High School Musical 3. The voice actor who had performed as Zac in all 3 films of the High School Musical saga actually had a fairly shrill voice according to Zac. He remarks that once he heard his Spanish self, he hoped that it would be possible to get someone different, as the voice actor’s voice did not match Zac’s at all.
Zac Tries His Best to Speak Spanish
Zac apparently studied Spanish in high school. As such, he understands the basics of the language. This is evident from the fact that the few lines he does speak, he is able to speak with a confidence that would be unnatural for someone who had no familiarity with the language.
We can see Zac speaking a few phrases of Spanish here and there as far back as 2010. When premiering Charlie St. Cloud in Madrid, we can see Zac in a fan-made video introducing the film. Still, the note that he uses to remember what he has to say is also visible in the film, further proving that Zac is not a fluent Spanish speaker.
Zac Briefly Dated Michelle Rodriguez Who Speaks Spanish
Zac’s affinity to the Spanish language isn’t without reason, as he dated Michelle Rodriguez for a short while. Michelle is of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Before she and her family moved to Texas when she was eight, she lived in both the Dominican Republic as well as Puerto Rico for a short while. Spanish is the language spoken in both of these countries, and she got to perfect her Spanish when living there.
While Zac and Michelle’s fling only lasted for a few weeks, it is entirely possible that Zac got to practice some of the Spanish that he had picked up in school on Michelle. The couple spent their summer partying across the world, and many of their pictures from Ibiza are still splattered all over the web.
Still, we have not seen Zac speak Spanish in recent years. He has said on numerous occasions that his biggest regret in life is not going to college. When the time came, his acting career was just starting to pick up. As such, he deferred his semester, and ended up never going back. Perhaps, Zac may have continued learning Spanish if he went to College?
Zac, of course, loves traveling to Europe. As such, while he may not be able to converse with his Spanish fans, it is only a matter of time before he visits them again!
