There’s no doubt that Shakira has been in amazing shape throughout her more than 20-year music career. What’s the secret to her fitness and does it include a vegan diet?
Shakira is neither vegan nor vegetarian. She tried becoming vegetarian but only lasted a month before she started eating meat again. She does eat a heavily plant-based diet but does not exclude meat or other animal products from her meals. Her diet is very strict and focused on maximizing her strength and stamina for her performances.

Shakira’s Diet
Shakira was given a strict diet plan in the buildup to her Super Bowl LIV halftime performance. The musician stressed was keen to emphasize that she isn’t dieting purely out of an urge to lose weight but because a proper diet is essential to possess the kind of stamina she needs onstage.
Her personal trainer, Anna Kaiser, has a couple of strict rules in the build to big occasions such as the Super Bowl. Sugar is kept to an absolute minimum, dairy is avoided entirely and meals are as balanced as possible.
She starts each day with two small meals, presumably one before and after her morning workout. The first generally consists of eggs or avocado with tomatoes and oil, a Mediterranean style snack, with the second breakfast usually a vegan smoothie with greens and berries to provide plenty of protein.
Lunch is usually fish with fresh vegetables or a salad. As Shakira’s afternoons are usually very busy, she often has soup as her main meal after lunch, primarily artichoke soups, leek and eggplant, carrot ginger, and maybe a side dish of cucumbers with salt and lemon.
As a general rule, Shakira’s meals are usually cold for lunch and then warm for dinner. Pork chops are one of her favorite foods, meaning there’s probably little chance of her turning vegan any time soon.
She also enjoys dark chocolate as a treat, though it will be as dark as possible so there’s a minimal amount of sugar or none at all.
Between meals, Kaiser encourages Shakira to eat fruit by itself and dairy by itself, due to differences in the digestive enzymes of each. Allowing the body to digest properly is important, not just eating healthy foods.
Kaiser also stresses the importance of drinking water throughout the day, with Shakira adding Alkamind Daily Minerals to the drink in order to alkalize her body, as well as getting plenty of sleep.
Keeping Fit
For her memorable Super Bowl LIV halftime performance with Jennifer Lopez, Shakira worked even harder than usual to get into top physical condition.
She worked with Anna Kaiser, a fitness icon who developed a dance-based, high-intensity workout which seems perfect for a dancer such as Shakira. Shakira and Kaiser had already been working together for 9 years when the Super Bowl rolled around so she was confident that there was nobody better to keep her in top condition.
Now in her 40s, there was a focus on ensuring Shakira’s energy and endurance were as strong as possible. The singer’s workout regime was active on six days of the week; Kaiser gave her a day off to recover and relax with her family.
As Shakira trains like an athlete, she also eats like an athlete, with multiple small meals throughout the day to ensure her body is constantly burning calories and using her food more effectively. This ensures she always has enough energy for her busy lifestyle and Kaiser’s grueling workout regime.
Shakira is clearly a very hard worker in the gym and while her children probably provide a lot of encouragement, they can also make it difficult to focus on her workout, as seen in an Instagram clip she shared of her morning workout.
