You often see, and hear, of the rich and famous out sailing on their yacht, filled with beautiful women having a great time. Does Elon Musk own a yacht?
It is believed that Elon Musk does not own a yacht. We’re not sure if he’d even have the time to go yachting if he did own one. With the long hours that he puts in at Tesla and SpaceX when would he be able to go? Plus, he doesn’t believe in taking vacations.
Just because he doesn’t believe in taking vacations himself, he doesn’t begrudge anyone else taking them. Plus, Teslas can act as a boat for short stints so if he wants to get out on the water, he always has that option. In all seriousness though, one of his longtime friends and business partners, Larry Ellison, owns a yacht, so I’m sure that Elon can use it if he feels like going for a ride in the water.
Mr. Steven
I guess Musk has officially purchased a boat, however, it is for SpaceX, and is not being used for pretty women and parties in the middle of nowhere. Originally used as an offshore supply vessel, the 205-foot long boat, renamed Mr. Steven, was refitted in 2018 to be used as SpaceX’s cone-nose recovery vessel. Though sometimes it misses its mark.
Other SpaceX Water Vessels
Since acquiring Mr. Steven, SpaceX has gone on to acquire other vessels for use of the same purpose, with the addition of Ms. Tree and Ms. Chief, no word on Ms. Take however.
Musk seems to have a good sense of humor when it comes to his ships, note play on words above, and one of his drone landing ships is named “Just Read the Instructions” and another is “Of Course I Still Love You”.
There are bound to be more SpaceX water vessels in the future.
Yachts
Yachts are sailing and cruising vessels, for the purpose of pleasure, that has been around for a long time, dating back to the 8th century. While the idea of yachting, or pleasure cruising, has been around for ages, the boats used for the fun sport haven’t always looked like they do now.
Originally pleasure sailing was just done in whatever sailboats were available at the time. It wasn’t until the early 1600, when King James VI commissioned, what we now refer to as a yacht, for his son, the Prince of Wales.
The term “yacht” came about a hundred years later, in the 1700s, and was named after the German term jachten, pleasure boats for the elite class. And they’ve only gotten fancier since then.
The most expensive yacht nowadays cost over $1 billion to develop and is owned by a Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Elon Musk’s friend Larry Ellison owns the fourth most expensive yacht, so again, we’re pretty sure Musk will be ok with just borrowing it if he feels the need to get out on the open sea if he doesn’t want to use one of SpaceX’s ships.
No Future Yachts Either
Musk has been quoted as saying that he’s not a fan of yachts, so we’re pretty sure he won’t be purchasing one in the future, with the billions of dollars he has. Though we’re sure he’ll probably end up with more toys in his collection, even if he says he’s got everything he wants.
Like flamethrowers, which he created for the Boring Company. Or rather he created the “Not a Flamethrower” for Borning Company and it comes with a complimentary fire extinguisher. So he might not purchase new gadgets he wants, he’ll just make them.
Even if he was a fan of yachts, we’re pretty sure that Elon Musk would be content with not owning one, again, where would he find the time.
