A Social (Media) Encounter
American pro golfer, Rickie Fowler and American track and field athlete, Allison Stokke first made their relationship public on April 24, 2017. The pair went on to marry in October, 2019.
In an interview for Rocket Mortgage, the official partner of Detroit’s 2020 PGA tour, Fowler stated that it was he who made the first move, contacting the professional pole vaulter on social media: “I reached out to her on social media. It seemed like she was the kind of person that would fit with who I am.”
He continued: “She’s very genuine, obviously very beautiful and someone I felt would be fun to be around.”
While the exact date of when the couple first met is unknown, it is likely they have been together since at least March of 2017 when an Instagram user commented ‘Fowler’s old lady’ on a bikini clad photo of the pole vaulter posted on March 20 of that year.
The couple went public with their relationship by each posting photos of them together at the Moto GP of the Americas in Austin, Texas in April, 2017.

With a Little Help From a Friend
Fowler and Stokke’s relationship quickly progressed and by June of 2018, Rickie was ready to propose to his athlete girlfriend with a little help from his PGA teammate and friend, Justin Thomas.
Rickie took some time off golf and headed to Southampton, Long Island with his girlfriend and the fellow golfer to explore the area and unwind before the 2018 U.S Open.
It was in Southampton that Fowler and Thomas hatched a plan to stage a proposal that Allison could not refuse.
A romantic stroll along the beach, with Justin Thomas in tow, turned into a photoshoot with Thomas gallantly taking photos of the couple enjoying their walk in the sand.
In an interview with Vogue, Stokke recalls the moment: “After a couple of photos, I looked over and Rickie was down on one knee with a big smile on his face.”
A Change of Plan
The couple planned to marry in the Bahamas at Baker’s Bay, a destination close to Fowler’s heart; he has vacationed there in 2017 with his PGA teammates.
However, a month before the planned nuptials, Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, devastating the area. Looking back, Allison said: “The impact on the islands, their residents, and our friends in the Abacos was heartbreaking,”
However, all was not lost and the company who organized the wedding, offered to move the couple’s event to another property in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Speaking of the day, Stokke remarked: “We were very lucky, as we ended up with the most hospitable crew and perfect weather at El Dorado Golf & Beach Club and Chileno Bay Golf and Beach Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.”
“Elena Damy and her crew out of Cabo and our event planner, Marcy Blum of Marcy Blum Associates were miracle workers and helped us create an even more amazing setting with florals and decor, somehow all at the last minute.”
With a guestlist that consisted of only 48 people, the couple’s magical ceremony went off without a hitch at sunset.
