Elon Musk is known for some pretty creative ideas and for thinking outside the box. Creativity is often formed in the right side of the brain, so many creatives are left-handed. Does Musk’s creativeness put him into that same category?
Elon Musk isn’t left-handed. Like 90% of the world’s population, Elon Musk is right-handed. So, nothing special there about this extraordinary man. So, what makes this man in particular, able to come up with things that others can’t? We’re going to take a look at where he fits in with the left-handed vs. right-handed world, which ties into the right-brained vs. left-brained world.
The brain is a wonderous and complicated thing. You may be wondering why we’re talking about the brain when we’re here to talk about which hand Elon Musk writes with. Well, it all starts with the brain. Right-handed people are usually left-brained, and vice versa, left-handed people are generally right-brained. So, what does this mean? And where does Elon Musk fit in?
Right Brain Left Brain
We know that the brain is split into two hemispheres. Though they look a lot alike, they aren’t the same, nor are they independent of each other. We told you the brain was complicated, but it’s also fascinating.
It is generally accepted that right-brained people, those who are left-handed, tend to have better imaginations, intuition, rhythm, daydreaming, and other areas. They also tend to be better in the Arts, with things like painting, dancing, sculpting, etc.
And, if you saw Musk’s dancing moves at a Tesla event in January, then you’re probably convinced already that he is not left-handed.
In addition, left-brained people, those who are right-handed, are accepted to have more linear thinking, are good at math and sequencing, and need facts and logic. This often tends to be your scientists and engineers, folks who live by rules and may not be as flexible.
In reality however, only a third of people with a more developed right brain are actually left-handed. While it is still generally thought that right-handed people use their left, analytical brain and left-handed people use their right, artistic brain, there is a lot of overlap.
While Musk may have some characteristics of right-brained people, such as the imagination and creativeness, he fits more boxes of a left-brained, and therefore right-handed person.
Tesla Vehicles for the Left-Handed
One of the projects that Elon Musk has his named attached to is Tesla. The first of its kind in automobiles, Tesla vehicles have a unique design to them. While they may look like regular vehicles on the outside, the Cybertruck notwithstanding, they are unique inside.
The standard dashboard has been replaced with a 15-inch tablet. While it may look strange, it’s a pretty neat concept and offers many more functions than a normal dashboard and display.
It looks like it was designed by a right-handed person, for the amount of dexterity needed to navigate the system, especially while sitting in the driver seat. Does this make it hard for left-handed people to navigate the system? If you’re right-handed, try propping up a tablet and only using your left hand, while not being able to steady your arm on anything.
Granted, ninety percent of the population is right-handed, so it shouldn’t be a major issue with car sales. However, it doesn’t seem likely that it was invented by a left-handed individual.
Creative Designers
Elon Musk has undoubtedly come up with some great ideas. He wants to make the world a better place and believes that technology is the way to go. While he has these broad concepts, he’s not actually the designer behind companies like Tesla and SpaceX. He hires a creative team to design and make his broad thoughts a reality. No word on how many of them are left-handed though.
Handedness in the Future
The number of right-handed people in the world is dropping while the number of left-handed, and even a tiny percentage of ambidextrous, those who utilize both hands, are rising a bit over time. Perhaps video games and technology are playing a role in that shift. It might be a small shift at this point, but could there come a time where the playing fields are more level?
In the future it’s entirely possible that handedness is not a thing. Technology nowadays is such that some of it uses both hands and people seem to be adapting just fine. No surprise that Elon Musk is behind some of those inventions as well.
