With that tragedy, Cardone lost almost all semblance of what could be called “normal” life, as well as the luxuries and opportunities that go along with it. One thing that Cardone especially lost, according to his own words, was his own sense of direction in life.
Directionless, and the family unit shattered, Cardone ended up in trouble of his own. Having a combination of problems with the law, and then eventually diving into something even worse, drugs.
Having seen the hard work of his father but not being able to achieve it himself, and feeling himself slowly slide down the slippery slope of bad habits, Cardone was left with a damaged sense of his own self-esteem and feeling worthless.
Although he wouldn’t be quick to completely give up, he did find himself bouncing between one idea and the other, initially getting an accounting degree but never having any use for it, before eventually entering the world of sales.
As with many drug users, you can begin to see the pattern underneath their behavior. The causes of drug addiction are often not the drug themselves, but the root cause of why you took the drug in the first place.
For Cardone, this was the lack of direction that he had slowly been consumed by over the years since losing his father. Although it didn’t give him his direction back, the first step was to at least get off the drugs that began ruling his life.
At 25, he had finished his stint in a rehabilitation clinic, and although he might not have known it at the time, began on the 5-year journey to become the millionaire he is today. Starting with literally almost nothing, Cardone is the very definition of “self-made”.

Despite not enjoying it, Cardone remained in the world of sales, which is where he began to make his first significant amount of money. Since he had kicked his addiction, he was determined to focus on his job and master it.
Not only did Cardone master it, but he began to see all the problems and shortcomings of the sales techniques that were being used. He took his frustration with those problems and channeled them into the founding of a new company.
This new company’s purpose was to reteach companies in the automotive industry about how sales should work, and how to efficiently deal with their customers in a more productive way.
Not only did it take off and was a massive success, but it also went on to fund the future Cardone Enterprises, now responsible for Cardone being a multi-millionaire with a net worth of over $100 million.
