She’s been present on the big screen since the late seventies as an accomplished actor, but is Jamie Lee Curtis also a baroness?
Jamie Lee Curtis is a baroness, by marriage. Her husband became the fifth Baron Haden-Guest in the mid-nineties, and by marriage she was made a baroness, according to the rules of British peerage.

Say It And It Will Be So
Jamie Lee Curtis first spotted her would-be husband in the early eighties. However, their coming together was a particularly strange one. She saw her husband-to-be in Rolling Stone magazine, and fell in love with him instantly.
Reportedly, she said to a friend of hers, “I’m going to marry that guy,” and did just that five months later. She met her husband – Christopher Guest – through his agent. It was love at first sight, and in 2020, the pair were still happily married.
In an interview in 2016, Christopher Guest delved into their lifestyle as baron and baroness. He explains: “I’m a baron. I’m Lord Haden-Guest. And yes, that’s a novelty. Born into it by accident, obviously. And then your dad dies and you’re the next one.”
As per his role, Guest would attend parliament in the United Kingdom. He’d sit in the House of Lords and participate in debates. He explained that it doesn’t really impact the lives of a lot of people, and many barons and lords actually have no money, and no aristocracy.
In 2015, Jamie Lee Curtis was quizzed on what makes a marriage last. This was a relevant question, given her then three-decades long marriage. She simply explained the secret was, “Don’t get divorced.”
Easily Into The Industry
Some have criticized the earliest beginnings of Jamie Lee Curtis. As of 2020, she boasted an incredible list of accolades and an enormous discography. However, her start in the film and television industries was reportedly down to nepotism.
Both her mother and father were already established actors when she was born. Her father had an incredible sixty-decade career by the time he passed away. He appeared in over one hundred movies, and in a string of television shows.
Curtis’ mother was from similar stock, having acted from the age of just eighteen. She starred in some instantly recognizable roles and had considerable acting chops. This, combined with her husband’s acumen, was enough to guarantee their daughter a starring start in life.
In a 2019 article with the New Yorker, Curtis acknowledged this notion. She stated: “… even if I claim I worked hard, I’ve never really worked hard a day in my life.” While she never thought she’d be an actor, she grew up surrounded by show business.
She also noted in that 2019 article that she found it impossible to escape the industry. When she attended college, she discovered that her mother was the most famous of all its alumni. Her current day success can be attributed to the start she had in the industry, however.
Her first role was in a 1978 horror film, Halloween. This movie has since gained cult classic status, and was an extremely successful title in the seventies and eighties. This propelled Curtis into the public eye, and the offers came rolling in. You can see an interview on YouTube below, where Curtis discusses the 2018 Halloween release.
She’d come to reprise that Halloween role five more times over the years. However, that wasn’t where it ended – she would star in dozens upon dozens of productions as the decades went on. She would ultimately become well-received and highly-awarded for her work.
Not satisfied with just her on-screen achievements, Curtis is also an accomplished author. As of 2020, Curtis had penned no fewer than thirteen children’s books, all to great success. It seems being a baroness has never interfered with her success or desire to achieve.
