Many celebrities are left handed, but is the Teenage Dream singer one of them?

Katy Perry is left handed, just like quite a few other famous musicians. There are many pictures and videos on the internet of her signing autographs with her left hand, which proves this. Other famous left handed musicians include Kurt Cobain, Ringo Starr, and even Miley Cyrus!

Katy Perry Writes with Her Left Hand

While she has never spoken about this in public or on the internet, we know that Katy Perry is left handed because she always signs autographs with her left hand. Every picture or video of her signing autographs for fans is enough to prove this. Katy is never snobbish when it comes to signing autographs and meeting fans – not only does she do it at official meetups, she even gets out of her car to do it or stops on the street for her fans!

Other left-handed musicians that Katy thus shares a common trait with include legends like David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain! Paul McCartney of the Beatles is also famous for being a left handed musician, he plays the guitar with his left hand! In fact, there is even a rumor that says he didn’t even know what to do with a guitar the first time he was handed one. He only figured it out once he saw a picture of Slim Whitman – who is yet another left-handed guitarist – and decided to flip his guitar around and taught how to reverse the strings! Paul isn’t even the only left handed Beatle, Ringo Starr is also left handed!

Katy Used to Be a Gospel Singer

A little known fact about Katy Perry is that she used to be a gospel singer. She grew up in a religious household with parents who were pastors and born-again Christians. Her entire education was religious and consisted of religious camps and schools. “I wasn’t able to say I was lucky because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed, and she also didn’t like that lucky sounded like Lucifer,” she has said about her upbringing.

As a teenager, she sang at her parents’ church. She even picketed at Marilyn Manson and Madonna concerts – handing out flyers about how to find your way back to God. Katy’s relationship with pop culture was, thus, strained at best. Secular music discouraged in Katy’s house. Eventually, she joined the audience at a Marilyn Manson concert, along with her youth pastor, and found that she actually enjoyed it. She describes this first experience as being, “really interesting and weird.”

Katy used to write and perform her own Gospel music too before she got famous. Her first album, Katy Hudson, was a collection of her own Gospel music. Even though she isn’t religious now, she maintains her spirituality. She has said, “I pray all the time – for self-control, for humility.” She also practices Transcendental Meditation as a form of spirituality. She learned it with her ex-husband Russel Brand, and they both still advocate for today.
