YouTube
Logan Paul was born on April 1, 1995, in Westlake, Ohio. He has a younger brother, Jake. Logan’s YouTube career began when he was just ten years old, working on videos for a channel called Zoosh.
He continued building a following on his personal YouTube channel throughout high school and college, making popular videos on Vine. Paul enrolled at Ohio University to major in Industrial Engineering but dropped out in 2014, moving to Los Angeles to focus on his social media career.
Though his early online presence was dominated by Vine, his profile grew elsewhere. In 2014, a compilation of his Vine videos posted on YouTube received more than 4 million views in its first week. He was already making hundreds of thousands of dollars from advertising on Vine at this point.
As of August 2020, Paul has more than 22 million subscribers on YouTube, making him one of the most popular individual uploaders.
Boxing
Logan Paul was a good high school athlete, playing as a linebacker for Westlake High School and being named on a state All-Star team by “The Plain Dealer”, a popular Ohio newspaper. He also qualified for the state high school wrestling championships.
In 2018, popular British YouTuber KSI challenged Paul to a white-collar amateur boxing match. The first fight occurred on February 24, 2018, and ended in a draw when two of the three judges scored it 57-57.
The fight sold 21,000 tickets, drew a gate of approximately $3.5 million, and was watched by more than a million people on YouTube pay-per-view, generating about $13 million.
The success of the fight, as well as its inconclusive result, meant there was significant interest in a rematch. The second fight would be broadcast on sports streaming giant DAZN, with both Paul and KSI receiving a $900,000 purse for their participation.
KSI vs Logan Paul 2 occurred at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 9, 2019, with KSI picking up the split decision win. In addition to their purse, it is believed that both men received a cut of the gate and box office, meaning Logan Paul likely made significantly more than a million dollars for the fight.
Maverick
Paul has also made a great deal of money from his merchandise, the main source of which is his clothing brand, Maverick Clothing.
His choice of brand name caused controversy in early 2018 after his video recorded in the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan, which showed Paul and his friends discovering the body of a deceased man.
Aokigahara is a notorious suicide location and Paul allegedly went to the forest because it was believed to be haunted, not expecting to actually find human remains.
This video, as well as others, saw Paul’s YouTube channel demonetized for a period and placed greater importance on his other moneymaking ventures. Maverick Clothing, which shares a name with Paul’s late parrot Maverick, became one of his major sources of income.
However, an existing company, Maverick Apparel, took issue with shoppers confusing their company for Paul’s and being boycotted in the aftermath of the Japanese video. Paul continues to sell Maverick clothes, though it is often shortened to Mav on products.
In 2019, his net worth was estimated as somewhere in the region of $19 million.
