The YouTube ‘influencer’ Logan Paul has been accused of animal abuse in the past. Is he trying to redeem himself by going vegan?
Logan Paul has declared himself vegan on occasion. However, a few months after the first announcement, he uploaded a picture of himself posing with meat and a video where he eats salmon. The YouTuber has announced his veganism more than once, but for how long he maintains the plant-based diet after each announcement is unclear.
Let’s take a closer look at the veganism claims made by Logan Paul and try to get to the bottom of this ‘fishy’ debacle.
Logan Paul ‘Goes Vegan’
On February 17, 2018, Logan Paul released a vlog on his YouTube channel, where he showed off his supermarket food haul.
His grocery bags contained many plant-based products, such as veggie bacon and burger patties. He then proclaims, “Everything’s Vegan! […] I think it’s time I tell you some important information as well. I have news—guys, I’m going vegan.”
The YouTuber doesn’t appear all that appetised by his purchases, telling the “LoGang” (his followers) that the veggie meat looks like “dog food.” He then tries to give some to the dog, who seems bemused.
Logan asks the camera, “This is going to be a rough life, right? So why am I doing it?”
The YouTuber goes on to say that his motivations for turning vegan are health-related, and that many people he knows “felt better” after converting to a plant-based diet. He also says that it’s possible to improve the “quality of your muscle fibre [with a vegan diet].”
A few months later, on May 7, a YouTuber couple that goes by the channel name “That Vegan Couple,” spotted Paul at a vegan festival. The pair approached Logan at the Los Angeles VegFest to ask him some questions about his supposed veganism.
The YouTuber tells the couple, “I’m vegan. I’ve been vegan for three months. I was eating at a vegan restaurant and was given this card to come to VegFest. I thought it sounded cool, I get here, and it is cool.”
He goes on to say, “My [vegan] experience has been good. It’s been great—much easier than I thought too—maybe because I live in LA. I’m doing it bro—vegan for life.”
It was at this point that many vegan Logan Paul fans started to really believe the star’s claims that he had turned over a new (vegan) leaf and was genuinely embracing the plant-based lifestyle for good.
Logan Paul Goes Back On His Word
On August 24, 2018, Logan Paul published a video on his channel which included him eating a piece of salmon. In the video, Paul declares, “This salmon is delicious.”
Any vegan fans of Paul were left further dismayed when on September 21, 2018, Logan published a photo on his Instagram account, where he poses with a leg of ham.
He then uploaded an accompanying post on his Instagram story, apologising to his vegan fans and stating, “I’ll be back.” Presumably meaning he will at some point return to a plant-based diet.
Back to Vegan?
On January 2, 2019, Logan Paul said on Twitter, “annnnnnnnd sober, vegan, abstinent january begins… wish me luck [sic].”
When a fan pressed him harder about his vegan status, Logan replied, “yeah so i was [vegan] for 4 months, then was losing weight excessively to the point where my muscles were literally eating themselves. was super lethargic and weak. had to eat meat again, so i started about a month before the fight. BUT, going back to vegan until I start training again [sic.]”
So it seems that the YouTube star was never interested in a vegan diet due to the ethical or environmental reasons that attract most vegans.
Since Logan Paul appears to have a fairly relaxed attitude to veganism, it’s likely he will continue to flitter between eating meat and adopting a plant-based diet.
