In 2013, Adam Levine was named People Magazine’s sexiest man alive. So what cologne does one of the world’s sexiest men wear?
Adam Levine wears Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s Y Eau De Parfum. He became the face of the fragrance in 2018 and has worn it since then. He also has his own fragrance line called Adam Levine by Adam Levine. It was released in 2012.
You can read more below about Adam Levine’s role in Yves Saint Laurent’s campaign and what his own fragrance line is like.
Levine is the Face of Y
Already the lead singer of Maroon 5, a former judge on The Voice USA, and international heartthrob, Adam Levine has a lot going on. As of May 2018, he was also able to include an international brand ambassador for YSL’s Y cologne in his list of accomplishments.
The point of the new campaign involving Levine was to bring about a new awareness of the brand’s Y fragrance. He is helping to promote the newer and bolder version of their already established fragrance.
According to The Cut, the new campaign also shows the Y wearer as “a relatable and mature man who… has accomplished all he’s set out to achieve but is still constantly curious and asking, ‘Why?’”
When asked why he chose to take YSL up on the offer to be one of their ambassadors, Levine said that he feels the individuality offered by YSL and their Y fragrance feels right to him.
As for the actual cologne Y Eau De Parfum, it is described as an Aromatic Fougere with woody scents. It has top notes of ginger, apple, and bergamot.
The notes at Y’s heart are juniper berries, geranium, and sage, and it has a base of amber wood, cedar, olibanum, vetiver, and tonka bean.
The Yves Saint Laurent website describes the scent as “A cool-hot masculine scent matching crisp radiance and addictive intensity captured in an already iconic bottle.”
Dominique Ropion is the perfumer or as it is put in the perfume industry, the nose behind the Y Eau De Parfum cologne. Ropion is the master perfumer at IFF, has won many industry awards, and is also the nose behind fragrances for Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, and Giorgio Armani.

Adam Levine’s Fragrance Line
While he is the face of Y by YSL today, Adam Levine actually announced that he would be launching his own fragrance line back in 2012. This was much to the chagrin of some of his fans.
Why though?
Well, only a year earlier Levine had tweeted that he wanted to put a ban on celebrity fragrances and that making one from that point forward should be punishable by death. He clearly went back on this claim when he said he was making his own fragrance line.
He backstepped a bit in a video that he made explaining the decision to make the fragrance line (as reported by Entertainment Weekly). Adame Levine said that it’s not that he hates other celebs or fragrances, he just doesn’t think that any of the people who promote their own fragrances are actually involved in the process.
Levine isn’t far off with that claim either. It seems to be widely known that most celebrities don’t actually wear their own fragrances and it is always a question whether they were involved in the making of the scent or if they just said “Yeah, just make a fragrance and slap my name on it.”
However, Adam Levine said that he felt very involved in making the two scents that he released, Adam Levine for Men and Adam Levine for Women. He has said that his fragrances are very classic and basic.
The Adam Levine for Men cologne comes in a clear bottle with a microphone-style cap. It has top notes of lemongrass, grapefruit, mandarin orange, sage, and violet leaf with a heart of passionfruit, guava, and ginger.
Its base is sandalwood, amber, and cedar. It is described as a Woody Aromatic cologne and it has been pretty positively received.
However, like many celebrities who create their own fragrance line, it is debatable if Adam Levine has ever worn his. And, of course, since becoming the face of Y Eau De Parfum by YSL you can bet that Y is his main fragrance now.
