Tom Brady has been an NFL quarterback for 20+ years and has been dominant the entire time; this has made him a sports Icon as he has found constant success in his profession. Brady has to be doing something different than other athletes to sustain this level of play, and the best place to start seeing what he does differently is by asking, what does Tom Brady eat for breakfast?
Tom Brady eats very little for breakfast and makes sure hydration is a huge part of his morning routine. Usually, he grabs an all-natural smoothie that is made with fruits, seeds, and nuts and tops it off with a protein shake after his workout.
As a professional athlete, you need to keep your body and mind in excellent shape. Tom Brady has proved for over two decades that he knows how to do just that, and considering they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s interesting to know what Brady eats in the morning.
Tom Brady has never been shy about the fact that he sticks to an insane diet, but that diet and his fitness routine are what he claims has kept him at peak performance for so many years. in his book The TB12 Method, he gives people an insight into exactly what his diet consists of.
A Typical Morning
According to his book, Tom Brady wakes up and instantly drinks 20 oz of water mixed with his TB12 electrolyte concentrate.
Brady claims that every glass of water he drinks in a day contains his concentrate and that it is critical for feeling energized throughout the day.
After he drinks his water, Brady goes to the kitchen to prepare his all-natural smoothie before his workout. Yes, his typical daily breakfast is nothing more than a smoothie.
The smoothie Brady drinks every morning for breakfast contains natural fruits like bananas, blueberries, strawberries, etc.
The smoothie also has a lot of seeds and nuts to add more protein.
A lot of the ingredients Brady uses in his meals are grown in his own garden so that he has full-guarantee that his food is all-natural.
Brady says that this smoothie is “nutrient-dense, high in fat, high in protein, and high in calories.” He also says he tries to avoid solid foods in the morning, so it doesn’t affect his morning workout.
Considering Brady wakes up at 6 a.m. every morning, this is only considered his first breakfast.
After the workout, Brady makes a protein shake that consists of his own protein powder, more of his electrolyte concentrate, and almond milk. Apparently, Brady is a huge fan of almond milk.
Below is a clip of Tom Brady discussing his eating habits, including his typical breakfast.
It is clear that Tom Brady has a pretty strict diet plan that doesn’t actually include a lot of eating for breakfast.
Room For Cheat Days
While it doesn’t happen often, even Tom Brady has cheat days in which he may actually put some solid food in his stomach for breakfast.
I will say now though a Tom Brady cheat day is not an ordinary person’s cheat day.
Brady is adamant about avoiding processed foods, foods with sugar, salt, bread, and anything else he deems as unhealthy.
This means Brady will not eat cereal, toast, oatmeal, pancakes, basically anything with bread.
His breakfast cheat days usually include avocado and eggs, which is typically a healthy breakfast for an average person.
In a 2019 interview with Men’s Health Brady admitted, that he is not as strict on himself as he once was.
While he still sticks to his diet, if he is craving something like bacon, he will eat it, but in moderation.
In the same interview, he said that he has relaxed with age and doesn’t beat himself up for having cravings.
He also said that he thinks that getting stressed over what is in some food may be just as bad if not worse for your health than the food itself.
It’s safe to say Brady has relaxed to an extent.
He’s Just Like Us
While Tom Brady’s diet might sound insane to some of us, he credits it with the reason he has stayed at peak physical performance throughout the years.
Regardless of how insane his daily breakfast sounds, it’s clear that it has worked for him.
I think the most relieving fact is that Tom Brady has cheat days just like the rest of us.
While his version of a cheat day may be completely different, we can still say we have in common with an NFL legend.
