Dedicated and Decorated
By 2020, Aaron Rodgers had become one of the most decorated and celebrated quarterbacks in the NFL. He’d served with the Green Bay Packers for fifteen years, and received countless accolades and awards. His early life prepared him for a career in football, and it all started in the heart of California.
As a boy, it seemed sports was in Aaron Rodgers’ blood. His father was a football player in his youth and went semi-pro. He educated his sons – all three – in the way of the sport from a young age. He taught them how to throw, catch, and most importantly, how to live. He instructed them on the choices they’d need to make to dedicate themselves to the sport.
Rodgers was born in Chico, California, but moved around a little when he was young. The family spent some time in nearby Ukiah, before moving to Oregon when Aaron was a young teenager. As he was a multi-talented sportsperson from a young age, Aaron began dabbling in basketball and baseball.
When the family transitioned back to Chico in the late nineties, Rodgers set his sights on football. He became a stalwart jock figure in high school, dedicating himself to a quarterback role. During his years in school, he was already setting – and breaking – records. Although he was a smaller teenager, he still played impeccably.
Aaron Rodgers continued his Californian journey with his attendance at Butte Community College. This wasn’t too far from his home town, being located just over a dozen miles away. He played football for the college with great gusto, leading them to victory on numerous occasions.
When he was discovered by a head coach for a prestigious university team, it was under confusing circumstances. The coach, Jeff Tedford, simply couldn’t believe Rodgers hadn’t already been approached by a top-tier university team. As a result, he immediately scooped up the prodigy and arranged a transfer for him, to the University of California in Berkeley.
Welcome To The NFL
Although he was an upcoming star in his youth, it was in the NFL that Aaron Rodgers would truly shine. In the 2005 NFL draft, he was selected by the Green Bay Packers. Reportedly, Rodgers had some issues with the draft. He felt he was picked far too late, and it wasn’t for his desired team.
However, Rodgers signed with the Packers, claiming a massive salary right off the bat. His early years were a bit of a struggle, and he took a while to find his feet in the big leagues. Although, when the time came, he would be ready and waiting for glory.
In 2008, Rodgers secured himself a starting position for the Green Bay Packers. In that season, he established himself as a credible threat and serious contender.
He began racking up some seriously impressive numbers, truly carving out a name for himself in the league. As he moved toward the end of the year, Rodgers signed a huge extension. This deal would see him secure tenure until 2014.
He was at the top of his career through 2010 and 2011. In the former year, he led the Packers to the Super Bowl, which they won. Rodgers’ performance in the match was so impressive that he was named the Super Bowl MVP for the season. This trend continued on in 2011, wherein he was named the NFL MVP for the entire year.
