Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has been making waves since his debut album, “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.” So, where does this emerging musician live when he isn’t producing heartbreaking pop music?
Lewis Capaldi purchased a £1.6 million ($2.2 million USD) mansion in Castlehill, East Renfrewshire. Before he made it big and moved into the princely abode, he lived humbly in his parent’s home in Bathgate, Scotland.
Lewis Capaldi is an emerging talent in the music industry, gaining recognition and acclaim for his heartfelt pop songs. People are clamoring to know more about the young star’s life, including his new place and what he will do next.
Mansion in Castlehill
Lewis Capaldi was born and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. Apparently, he enjoyed the area, as he chose to live nearby in a mansion just outside of Glasgow, in East Renfrewshire.
Some conflicting reports surround Lewis Capaldi’s wealth, with Capaldi himself having said previously that he only has around £200 (approximately $277 USD) in his personal bank account. In contrast, others report that the musician is worth over £7.8 million, which would be a whopping $10.8 million in USD.
Lewis Capaldi often spoke about his life living at home with his family in Bathgate, Scotland, even going so far as to make a video documenting his life at home after his success.
The video, titled “‘I’m a god amongst men’: Becoming Lewis Capaldi,” is largely comedic, featuring Capaldi hanging out in his childhood bedroom and eating pizza. However, he is not hanging out there anymore!
The Scotsman reports that Lewis Capaldi purchased his new home, a luxurious mansion, in 2019.
The mansion is a converted barn surrounded by a gorgeous 10 acres of countryside. It also features an artificial island and a bridge.
However, Lewis Capaldi thought that there was still work to do and submitted plans to renovate the property.
These renovations included transforming the stables into more living space, including spare bedrooms, a home gym, and a garage area. Lewis Capaldi also submitted plans to renovate the main house, extend the master bedroom, and incorporate a newly-furbished kitchen.
The plans are based on an open-floor concept and include a sunroof to let the light in.
Daily Record notes that although Lewis Capaldi may have moved out of his parent’s home, he is not going too far — the five-bedroom mansion is only 30 miles away from their home.
Career and Discography
So, how did Lewis Capaldi get to the point where he was able to buy a mansion?
Rolling Stone reports that Capaldi’s success came mainly from his 2019 debut album, titled “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.” The album topped the charts and even garnered Lewis Capaldi his first Grammy nomination for his hit song, “Someone You Loved.”
After a year, Lewis Capaldi lived at home with his parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as he was unable to tour. However, for the one-year anniversary of the release of “Divinely Inspired to a Hellish Extent,” Lewis Capaldi released his EP, “To Tell the Truth I Can’t Believe We Got This Far.”
The EP, which featured live performances that were YouTube fan-favorites, was meant to be a thank you to Lewis Capaldi’s fans who had supported him throughout his career.
Rolling Stone quoted Capaldi on his incredible success, saying, “If it’s any consolation to those that don’t like me, most people who have a very successful first album go on to have an absolute shocker of a second one.”
However, Lewis Capaldi was still in the process of writing a second album at the time.
He began by playing covers interspersed with his own songs at local pubs, saying, “My first gig was me sitting with a guitar, and now you can see me standing with a guitar at an arena. Maybe all that’s showing is I haven’t evolved since I was eleven.”
However, it would seem that Lewis Capaldi has indeed evolved since he was eleven, amassing a huge following for his songwriting capabilities.
Although he has garnered a significant amount of success, Lewis Capaldi’s public persona is incredibly different than some fans might come to expect, given his dark and brooding songs. Instead, Lewis Capaldi likes to joke around on social media and make self-deprecating jokes.
As for his sophomore album, Lewis Capaldi has said that it will take a slightly different tone due to his time on the road, touring. Now, instead of writing about how local girls are not interested in him, he might choose to write about how girls all around the world are not interested in him.
“I’ve found in my travels that I am equally repulsive to women halfway around the world as I am to them in my hometown, which is a heartwarming thing,” Capaldi jokes.
