The Weeknd is known for his decadent music that explores the highs and lows of living the high life, as well as for hilariously nabbing a Kids’ Choice Award nomination for his hit song, “Can’t Feel My Face,” which was clearly about narcotics. Where does The Weeknd live when he’s not avoiding getting slimed?
The Weeknd grew up in Toronto, Ontario, but he currently lives in the Hidden Hills, California. However, he also owns a number of properties across the United States.
The Weeknd has several options for where to spend his weekends, from his two houses near Los Angeles to his penthouse apartment in New York City. Although he does not own the property, fans of The Weeknd might also be interested in the house that inspired the musician’s debut album, “House of Balloons.”
Properties in California
Although The Weeknd lives in the Hidden Hills area of Califonia, he might not be staying in the area for much longer. Variety reports that the “Starboy” musician put his gated Hidden Hills home on the market for an original asking price of $25 million.
The Weeknd may have been looking for a real estate win, but it didn’t appear to be the case, as the $25 million asking price proved to be a little too optimistic — it was later slashed down to an asking price of $22 million.
However, this is still much more expensive than what The Weeknd originally paid for the property in 2017, when he bought the mansion for $18.2 million.
12,500-square-foot mansion does seem to deserve a hefty price tag, as it is complete with tons of attractive features such as a five-car garage and a gourmet kitchen with two floating kitchen islands. The home also features not one but two white marble fireplaces.
Additionally, The Weeknd’s mansion has a swimming pool, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a home gym, and a home theater. We’d definitely like to spend the weekend there!
Robb Report also reports that the interior design of the house has a distinctly Scandanavian, modern feel with white walls, airy interiors, and sleek minimalist design.
Fans can speculate if the location might have inspired The Weeknd’s hit song, “The Hills.” Hidden Hills is a popular location for many celebrities, including some of the Kardashian family and musician Selena Gomez.
Velvet Ropes reports that The Weeknd owns a second property in California, this time a 7,950 square foot mansion in Beverly Hills. The Weeknd purchased the property in 2019 for $21 million.
NYC Penthouse Life
If his two mansions in California weren’t enough for The Weeknd, he could also enjoy his penthouse in New York City.
The Weeknd is rumored to be renting the penthouse for $60,000 a month with his girlfriend, model Bella Hadid. The building, located in the Greenwich neighborhood of New York City, is reported to be “paparazzi-proof.”
Still, it’s supposed to be a penthouse that’s absolutely to die for, clocking in at just over 5,000 square feet, with two floors. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in addition to a chef’s kitchen and 1,000 square feet of outdoor space to enjoy away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.
House of Balloons
In terms of notable real estate The Weeknd has influenced, there is the House of Balloons in Toronto, Ontario. In 2013, The Weeknd revealed to curious fans during a Reddit AMA that the House of Balloons referenced on his debut album of the same name was actually a real place in the city.
Exclaim Music confirmed that the house is genuinely a real place; however, The Weekend no longer lives there — he simply rented a unit there in the early days of his musical career. The house is located in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto.
In a Rolling Stone interview, The Weeknd revealed the reason behind the nickname, saying, “We were legends on that street. If you go there now, it’s all these little 18-year-old kids that look like me […] We’d throw these shitty parties and have girls over, and we’d try to make it celebratory, so we’d have balloons.”
It was in that House of Balloons that The Weeknd began seriously pursuing his musical career.
