For the sports fan, American football player Tom Brady is a man that needs almost no introduction. Hailed as the most talented quarterback of his generation, his two-decade-long tenure with the New England Patriots has seen him playing together with twenty years’ worth of players.
Tom Brady throws to Rob Gronkowski the most, having passed to him over 70 touchdown passes over a career of over 500 passes. Gronkowski had a career with the Patriots almost as long as Brady did.
When you’ve got almost 18 years together on the same team, it only makes sense that you would pass to one man more than others. Even with those 18 years together, the fact that almost a fifth of his passes were to one man is impressive!
It’s no wonder that the two were considered a lethal team.
Brady and Gronk
The combination of Brady and Gronk, at its best, appeared borderline unstoppable. Both players are regarded as being two of the best to ever step on the field, which makes it feel a little unfair that they were on the same team for 18 years!
The number of successful throws under their collective belt was no doubt mainly attributed to the athletic prowess of the pair, but there’s definitely something to be said for the friendship that the two also shared.
After Gronk went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady followed suit just a year later. The reunion with his primo passing partner proved something else on top of their unbreakable brotherhood, they are also genuinely a terror on the field together.
They poked fun at this reunion a little during an unaired commercial for network carrier T-Mobile. The commercial jokingly speculates that Gronk’s retirement and Brady’s trajectory after leaving the Patriots were determined by poor network signal.
The two won Brady’s seventh Superbowl win together, which is a legacy worthy of note all on its own. Not only that, though, they also cemented their status as the most dangerous duo to dominate the field by breaking the record for most touchdowns in NFL playoff history.
Outside of their accomplishments within the sport, the two have shown their kinship to the world on more than one occasion.
One example was their taking of the friendship test, where they both attempted to correctly answer questions about each other, only revealing their answers to each other at the end. In some cases, they haven’t only just guessed the right answer, but written the exact same thing!
Synchronicity at its finest, even if you removed the natural gifts that both possess it’s still an overwhelming idea of the pair working together.
Throwing Other Things
Brady hasn’t relegated himself to only throwing balls, either. After all, when you’re arguably the greatest quarterback ever, why limit yourself?
During the celebration that the Buccaneers were holding for their Superbowl win, a slightly intoxicated Brady was struck with a moment of genius. That moment of genius involved Brady, the highly sought after and coveted prize of the Superbowl, and a daring throw between two boats filled with victory revelers.
The idea of throwing the Vince Lombardi Trophy anywhere is an action that could be regarded as sacrilege by a lot of fans. Throwing it over a body of water where it had the potential to require a diving team to be recovered is another story entirely.
Not one to back down from a challenge, Brady launched the trophy cross-water all the same. It was one of the throws of his career that didn’t go to Gronk, as he threw the coveted symbol of victory to another teammate, Cameron Brate.
Needless to say, reactions to the throw were… Mixed. Perhaps from Brady’s perspective, he had simply won so many of the trophies that one sitting on the seabed wouldn’t have really mattered – after all, he still has six spares.
He since admitted that he might not have been thinking too clearly, remembering that his daughter was the only voice of reason at the time, trying to dissuade him from his course of action.
Even if you don’t approve of the throw, you have to admit that it was pretty expertly executed. What else could you expect from Brady, though?
