Meghan Markle is known for being an icon of beauty and elegance – she’s essentially a princess, after all. However, is her svelte figure and glowing appearance the result of a totally clean diet?
Meghan Markle is not vegan. After investigation, it has been revealed that the Duchess of Sussex – to give her the official title – is in fact a ‘flexitarian’. She regularly flips between vegan and meat-eating habits.

Getting To The Bottom Of It
Meghan Markle is a humanitarian with equality and the empowerment of women at the center of her philanthropic activities. She has regularly gone on file as being an true animal lover at heart, and adores dogs; she’s actually an avid animal activist who opposes blood-sports.
This has caused conflict with her royal relations (by marriage) who engage in traditional blood-sports such as hunting.
With all that in mind, you’d think that would make her a vegan – or at the very least, vegetarian. Well, not completely – but close. Meghan Markle came out in 2019 and gave the official rendition on her dietary choices, stating:
“When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat. I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.”
However, that statement is under some speculation, as Markle ‘retired’ from acting in 2017, only potentially considering it as a possible source of income when the royal couple – Meghan and Harry – departed from their official duties in 2020.
There’s a great, in-depth video that explains Meghan Markle’s dietary lifestyle in-depth on YouTube.
The Diet Of A Royal
It’s no big secret that the British Royal family is subject to some of the most in-depth media scrutiny in the world, even more so than some celebrities. Almost every aspect of their entire lives is plastered across global media, from their birth, to marriages and deaths.
It’s the nature of their family that everything from their choice of clothing to their choice of diet is scrutinized and analyzed for all to see.
In an explorative article, the reader is exposed to Markle’s full dietary choices and – allegedly – she has always been a responsible, sensible eater.
This lifestyle must go beyond her responsibility as a royal, as actors and actresses the world over must eat healthy to maintain a good figure and clean appearance. She has explained that she avoids snacks, but if she does, it’s nuts and whole fruits.
Her healthiness extends to what she drinks, too; she doesn’t consume coffee as a pick-me-up, but instead opts for green juices and smoothies.
In fact, the only thing Markle consumes that could be considered harmful is a lot of carbohydrates. These make up the base of our energy sources in a modern-day diet, but they’ve also been linked to weight gain when eaten in large portions.
Meghan however, seems to have her portion control down to the perfect level.
Determining The Favorites
The Duchess of Sussex actually has such a healthy diet that her top twelve favorite things to consume – summarized by this article – don’t even feature anything ‘artificial’, or sugary.
There’s things on the list like acai bowls, quinoa, watermelon and sushi, but nothing that would ever spoil the slender figure of an actress superstar turned royalty.
When it comes to drinks, Meghan Markle has confirmed she’s a wine lover at heart, with a ‘full-bodied’ red wine at the center of it all. Her favorite wine is a Tignanello, an expensive and luxurious red wine from the Chianti Classico region in Italy.
In fact, she loved this wine so much that she decided to make a dedication to it, naming her lifestyle website and blog after it – The Tig.
Unfortunately, this website was closed by Markle back in 2017 as she couldn’t find the time to keep it up, but we can easily assume she’s still enjoying the odd glass of Tignanello on occasion.
