John Legend, Sandra Bullock, Justin Timberlake, and many more A-list stars admitted they aren’t huge fans of swimming. Does Ariana Grande feel the same way?
Judging by Ariana Grande’s tweets and photos, the Grammy-winning singer can swim. Some of her music videos, including “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” and “Bed” with Nicki Minaj, featured scenes filmed at a swimming pool.
Stick around to learn more about Ariana Grande’s love for swimming, both on and off camera.
Grande’s Love for Swimming
Ariana Grande grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, so it would be pretty strange if she never learned to swim. This charming town is located in the heart of Florida’s Atlantic Ocean coast, and it’s home to many beautiful beaches and swimming pools.
Many Floridians enjoy spending their free time on the beach and swimming comes naturally to them, but there are exceptions to this rule. Some people fear open water, sharks, and fishes, and that’s why they avoid swimming at all costs.
There’s no evidence that Ariana Grande feels that way since she mentioned her love for swimming in several old tweets. Back in 2012, the “7 Rings” singer told her fans that swimming is one of her favorite sports, along with football and hockey.
Judging by her tweets, Grande also enjoys hitting the beach and going for a swim every time she returns to Boca Raton. After visiting her home town in summer 2012, the singer tweeted “had lots of fun swimming and seeing my old friends.”
The Swimming Pool Scenes
It’s unclear how good of a swimmer Ariana Grande is, but this is obviously one of her favorite pastimes, and some of her music videos featured scenes filmed at a swimming pool.
“Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” is the most memorable example since it’s one of the biggest hits from her album Thank U, Next. It topped the charts in several countries and peaked at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Hannah Lux Davis-directed visual follows Grande as she befriends a young couple, played by Charles Melton and Ariel Yasmine. The final scene shows them hanging out together in a swimming pool, and the video cuts off as Grande leans in to kiss Yasmine.
This music video left many of her fans confused, and not everyone agreed what kind of message she’s trying to send. Some people accused her of queer-baiting, while others felt this song is another amazing self-love anthem.
Swimming pool scenes were also featured in Grande’s Nicki Minaj collaboration “Bed”. They teased the video by sharing a clip that shows them having fun in a swimming pool filled with foamy bubbles.
Swimming in Paint
Ariana Grande is apparently such a huge fan of swimming that she doesn’t limit herself to dipping into the water. The mesmerizing music video for “God Is a Woman” showed the singer floating in a pool of swirling purple and pink paint.
The scene in question was created by the body painter Alexa Meade. She told Buzzfeed News that they wanted to make it seem like Grande is positioned in the middle of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting because the song tackled the theme of female empowerment.
Before the shooting started, Meade started experimenting with paint alongside the performance artist Sheila Vand. They filled up five or six inflatable pools with different types of waterproof paint to see how they will react while making sure they’re safe and easy to remove.
Painting Grande’s body took less time than expected because she came up with a couple of great ideas on her own, and Meade was wowed after seeing how the video turned out.
“I spent a lot of my time during the shoot ensuring that the paint in the bath looked good and she wasn’t getting paint splashed on her face. I wasn’t able to take a step back and see the finished product until later. It turned out so epically beautiful,” the artist told Buzzfeed News.
