Professional Life
Famously known for his role as Professor Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Oberon in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, Jack Black is a well-known actor.
More importantly, he has his own band which goes by the name ‘Tenacious D’. His duo rock band was formed by both Jack Black himself and Kyle Bass and the band has been active since 1994. Coincidentally, in 1996, Black played the role of Tenacious D in the American comedy Bio-Dome.
As a YouTube personality, Jack Black (who goes by the name Jablinski on the platform) uploads videos predominantly about games while covering other categories including food and general life.
The actor is additionally thought of as a comedian. Some of the most comedic films he has starred in range from Orange County to The Cable Guy.
In 2018, Black received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This speaks volumes about Black’s expertise in his acting career because to even be considered for a star on the Walk of Fame, you must have been famous for at least five years or have produced something spectacular and you must have “unchallengeable” expertise—that’s according to Grazia. It just so happens that the year before Black received his star, he was nominated for two MTV awards for his role in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.
By 2022, Black’s acting career will have spanned across three whole decades. In that time, he has starred in a lot of famous films that you’re likely to have heard of. Some of his famous acting credits include his role as Miles in The Holiday (2006), his voiceover of Po in the Kung Fu Panda sequel, and, as aforementioned, his role as Professor Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Oberon in the Jumanji films.
The question is: will he continue acting for the rest of his life? In 2019, upon entering his 50s, Black hinted that he’d be taking an early retirement after a long and prolific acting career. “I’m kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement.” He told IGN. “I’m looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset.” The reason? He’s missing out on spending time with his family—time he’ll never get back.
Personal Life
A few decades after his professional career started kicking off, Jack married his longtime sweetheart, Tanya Haden in March 2006. In the same year, they welcomed their first child, Samuel Jason Black, born June 10th. Just shy of two years later, they welcomed their second son, Thomas David Black, born May 23rd, 2008.
In a 2010 interview with Parade, when his boys were still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Black revealed that his secret to good parenting was sleep.
“The more sleep I get, the better dad I am.” He said. “Parenting is 90% energy; if you don’t have it, then there tend to be some lazy TV-watching days with the kids, and that ain’t gettin’ it done.”
