Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are arguably the two most famous members of the Kardashian family. Although the two are thought to be sisters they have different last names, leaving some fans questioning their family tie.
The two sisters have different last names because they have different fathers, however, both of the women share the same mother, Kris Jenner, making them half-sisters.
Read more below about the Kardashian family tree and the future of the Kardashian-Jenner family.
The Beginnings of the Kardashian Family
The Kardashian family all began with Robert Kardashian who was born in 1944. Robert was a third generation Armenian-American.
His great-grandparents, Hovhannes Miroyan and Luciag Chorbajian, and their daughter, Vartanoosh Mironyan, left what was then Armenia (now Turkey) in early 20th century after being warned by a prophet that dreadful things would come if they stayed. Fortunately, this meant that they were able to escape the genocide that devastated millions of Armenians from 1915 up until 1920, and begin a life in America instead. Vartanoosh gave birth to Robert’s mother, Haigoohi Arakelian in America in 1917.
Robert was then born in Los Angeles, California in 1944. Robert grew up here and married Kris Jenner, “momager” to the infamous Kardashians, in 1978. The couple had their first child, Kourtney Kardashian in 1979, followed by Kim Kardashian in 1980, then Khloé Kardashian in 1984 and finally Rob Kardashian in 1987.
Just over ten years later, Kris began an affair with soccer player Todd Waterman, which led to her and Robert divorcing in 1991. Not a year passed before Kris remarried, this time to Olympic Gold Medalist Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner) with who she had Kendall Jenner in 1995 and Kylie Jenner in 1997.
Following this family tree, and as a result of Kris Jenner’s two marriages, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are half-sisters, sharing a mother, Kris, but having different fathers, Robert and Bruce.
KKW Beauty Versus Kylie Cosmetics
Despite the many clashes on their show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the Kardashian sisters are said to be very close. The five can be seen in a snap on Kourtney Kardashian’s Instagram, posing together with the caption “Happy National Sister Day”. Follow the link below to check it out.
However, in a family of six siblings, some are bound to become closer than others. Despite their difference in age (17 years), it seems that Kim and Kylie still retain an unbreakable sisterly bond.
The pair are extremely supportive of one another’s businesses and when asked about the successes of her sister’s beauty company Kim told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m so proud of her.”
The Kardashian continued to explain, “to think in her early 20s, she built a business off of something that she first was insecure about and finding confidence and, you know, just tapping into that and figuring out how to make an amazing product and just being true to herself and doing what she loves to do, that’s so inspiring and so amazing and I’m so proud of her.”
As well as this, the pair can be seen on Kylie Jenner’s YouTube channel do one another’s make-up. See the video by clicking the link below.
Kris Jenner’s Grandchildren
Since her marriage to Robert Kardashian mother hen, Kris Jenner, has built an empire on their family name. After having six kids from two different marriages, Kris is now a grandmother to ten.
Of these children, four are Kim’s and one is Kylie’s. Kim had her first child, North West in 2018, her second, Saint West in 2015, her third, Chicago West in 2018 and her fourth, Psalm West in 2019, all with rapper and celebrity Kanye West.
Kylie on the other hand, had her first and only child, Stormi Webester in 2018 with American rapper Travis Scott. However, Kylie and Travis are no longer together, but Kylie has told fans that she hopes to have more children in the future. This makes both of the sisters mothers, businesswomen, reality television stars, make up gurus and social media moguls.
Whilst they are not full sisters, they are half-sisters, and endlessly supportive of one another as family should be.
