Some people cannot, for the life of them sing any kind of musical note melodiously. Although Brad Pitt isn’t famous for being a singer, one can’t help but wonder: can he sing?
Yes – Brad Pitt can sing. Determining whether he sings well is a different question entirely. Still, we’ll let you be the judge of this as we run through several instances where the famous movie star has been found singing in public and on camera.
Palm Springs International Film Festival 2015
At the 2015 Palm Springs International Film Festival, Brad Pitt was meant to introduce British American actor, David Oyelowo and present him with the Breakthrough Performance Award for his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, in the movie Selma (which featured the talents of Brad Pitt’s production company). In performing this task, Brad Pitt did the unconventional by leading the audience members in a kind of sing-along. The subject of the song was—wait for it—the pronunciation of David’s surname.
While on stage, Brad stated, “I know that there is one lingering question in the back of your minds. It’s a fundamental question. I think it’s only fair that we air it out tonight. And that question is: how the hell do you pronounce his name?”. The answer to the question was Brad’s singing, as seen in the clip below.
On getting to the stage, David Oyelowo responded to the singing by saying, “You know you’ve broken through when Brad Pitt sings your name,” and we certainly agree! Brad Pitt is a good actor, and it naturally comes to him. In trying to appreciate David for a job well done, he sang, and it sounded good. However, that was not the first time Brad Pitt would be singing for an audience.
Johnny Suede
Johnny Suede is a 1991 movie in which Brad Pitt plays the role of the eponymous character. The film trails Johnny’s attempt to become a rock n’ roll star like his idol, late American pop star Ricky Nelson. In becoming the quintessential rock n’ roll star, Johnny has all the necessary props except a black pair of suede shoes. This remains the case until one night when a pair of suede shoes randomly fall at his feet.
As one can’t be a rock n’ roll star without singing, the movie features Brad Pitt belting out some notes while in character and sporting an immense pompadour. An example of this is seen in the video below.
Because we like the sight of the pompadour on Brad Pitt, here’s another video of him singing in the movie.
Yodelling With Jimmy Fallon
Yodelling is a form of singing which requires a singer to rapidly alternate between low-pitch chest registers and high-pitch head registers. If the video below is anything to go by, Brad Pitt is an awesome yodeler. In the video Brad Pitt and Late Night show host, Jimmy Fallon engage in a yodeling conversation from atop two different skyscrapers.
The conversation commences when Jimmy Fallon, in a bid to let off steam from working, climbs up to his roof and randomly yodels. He hears a yodel response, and the responder is revealed to be Brad Pitt. The two proceed to make inquiries of themselves, and the conversation ultimately culminates in a yodeling duet suggested by Brad Pitt. The resulting double yodel is quite pleasant, and you should see for yourself.
After listening to all of the singing above by Brad Pitt, it is clear that he can sing and can sing fairly well at that. It may not be such a bad idea for the award-winning actor and producer to delve into the music scene. He just might give the current performing artists a run for their money. After all, he is known for giving his best to his craft.
