Many people around the world are multilingual, and this is something people can only speak just one language envy. These exclusive sets of individuals also have as members, various celebrities. Is Brad Pitt one of such stars? And more importantly, can he speak the Korean language?
No. Brad Pitt is not one of the approximately 77 million people worldwide who are fluent in the Korean language. Considering that Brad Pitt is an American citizen and not a Korean, this does not count as unusual. Yet, has a talented actor and producer got any connection with Korea? This article will provide answers.
Brad Pitt’s Connection With Korean
Korean is the official language spoken in both North and South Korea. It is also spoken by a recognized minority in Russia and China. Brad Pitt, as a celebrity with international acclaim, most certainly has fans in these places. That is his first connection with the Korean language – he has got fans that speak the language.
Because he has fans that speak the language, it is not surprising that he has had reasons to be in South Korea for some engagements. For instance, here he was in South Korea, thanking his fans for coming out to see him during the world press tour for the 2011 biographical sports drama film Moneyball.
Similarly, he was also present on the red carpet in South Korea for the country premiere of the 2014 war film Fury, which features his immense talent. As a movie star, you get to tour different cities to promote new movies and connect with your fans. Brad Pitt has had his fair share of movie tours, and if that took him to Korea, we are sure he was excited about it.
Another connection which the legendary actor shares with the Korean language flow from events at the 92nd Academy Awards held earlier in February. At the ceremony, Brad Pitt won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. While receiving the award, he took a dig at the Donald Trump Administration by making reference to the impeachment proceedings against the President in his acceptance speech. At the same ceremony, the Korean movie Parasite scooped up the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. Subsequently, both the film and Brad Pitt were the subject of criticism by Donald Trump at a rally he held in Colorado. The connection here is that Brad Pitt and a movie filmed in Korean are not the favorites of the American President!
Besides these slight connections with Korean, Brad Pitt has got a more personal relationship with the language. This connection is through his son from his previous marriage Maddox Jolie-Pitt. Maddox opted to attend college in South Korea and is currently a student at Yonsei University, where he has gotten some celebrity treatment.
Although he is currently back home with his mother, Angelina Jolie, due to the current coronavirus outbreak, he is still focussing on his Korean and Russian studies. Besides this, the relationship between Brad Pitt and his son Maddox might be strained as the Ad Astra star had not visited his son in school before the outbreak of COVID-19. Maddox confirmed this after being approached by paparazzi while still in school.
In the hopes that the relationship between father and son will become better, there just might be a possibility that the pair could bond over learning the Korean language.
Finally…
From all of the above, we can deduce that although Brad Pitt can’t speak Korean, he does have several ties to the language, and we think that has to count for something. He may, as a result, learn the language in the future. He may also be cast for a movie that requires him to speak Korean. So on this one, we will never say never.
