Simon Cowell is a top executive in the music industry, owning his own label, as well as being a judge, both past and present, on such shows as American Idol, The X Factor, America’s Got Talent, and Britain’s Got Talent. Can Simon Cowell Sing?
Though Simon Cowell is one of the greatest businessmen in the music industry, he, himself cannot sing. And, according to Tom Jones, because of that he’s unqualified to judge other singers.
One time he did sing on tv, but he claims it was a joke and an imitation of a bad auditioner. He may not be any good at singing, but Simon Cowell is great when it comes to business, and more so, what sells in the music world. He’s been responsible for finding some of the top acts to come out of Britain and beyond, such as One Direction.
Popularity of Singing Shows
The past few years singing shows have gained popularity again. Over the decades there have always been singing shows, such as Star Search, Putting on the Hits, and many others.
Within the past several years, however, there seems to be an influx of singing shows, and people just can’t get enough. You have American Idol, The Voice, The Masked Singer, America’s Got Talent, and the XFactor, to name a few.
The last two aren’t solely for singing, but do include acts. These are just the American versions, many, if not all, have equivalents in other countries as well. One show that’s extremely popular across the pond is Eurovision, which showcases not just the singing, but writing and stage performances as well.
Simon Cowell plays a big part in many of these shows, in America and Britain. Not only is he, or has he, been a judge, but he’s also Executive Producer on many of them as well.
These shows prove that there are many talented singers out there, whether born or bred, and the world just can’t get enough. No need to worry though if your dream of becoming a famous singer didn’t go as planned, there are still many talents one can have.
History of Singing
Singing has been around pretty much as long as humans have been around. Though it may not have always sounded as it does today, singing has none the less been around longer than written history.
There is a reason people say that music is a language everyone understands. Every culture, no matter where they are located, or how remote they may be, has singing, in one format or another.
Unlike some talents, singing isn’t one that people are just born with. Or, I should say, good singing. Technically, almost anyone can sing. If you have a voice box you’re able to produce a tune. Unfortunately, for many, that does not make them the next Justin Timberlake or Adele.
Singing began before musical instruments were invented, with voice being the first instrument. Some cultures began singing by chanting and some by prayer, with some cultures carrying on those traditions today.
When you break it down scientifically your lungs, vocal cords, especially the vocal folds, and air all play a major role in being able to sing. The volume of your voice is dependant on the amount of air being forced out of your lungs.
When most people think of singing, they think about what they hear on the radio, or perhaps what is sung in church. Music has meant many things to many people over the years. Songs have been sung about heartache, basic rights and freedoms, and some that really have no meaning at all.
One of the most popular singing venues could be the shower or the car! That’s the closest many of us will get to sing in the big time. And for some of us, that’s probably for the better.
