Yes. Tom Cruise can skydive. He is an adventurous person and shows this side of him in his movies. He has skydived in some of his films. He is the daredevil stuntman that we all believe him to be. Read on to learn about his love for skydiving.
106 Skydives: Go Tom!
It is not difficult to see why skydiving is a sport to be attempted once in a lifetime for most people. It is viewed as one of the things to take off your bucket list because it is terrifying, to say the least. But not for Tom Cruise. We are sure that skydiving is not on Tom’s bucket list as the star skydived 106 times while shooting the movie, Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The beginning of the movie shows Tom Cruise, acting as Ethan Hunt, trying to get into Paris unnoticed. Tom had to do a HALO (High Altitude-Low Opening) from the helicopter. To get this stunt right, Tom had to do 106 jumps. The actor definitely gives his best to his craft even if it means repeating a terrifying procedure 106 times. It was reported that he suffered an ankle injury while on set for this same movie and the stunt was shot after he recovered from the injury. Talk about determination, talk about Tom Cruise. See how he does the stunt in the video below.
According to the movie director and producer, Christopher Macquarie people thought it was going to be impossible to pull the stunt. However, having worked with Tom Cruise’ on several movies, he was convinced that Tom Cruise would nail the stunt and Tom owned that skydive in Mission: Impossible Fallout.
Hello Burj Khalifa
Another notable jump by Tom Cruise was his stunt in Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol where he jumps from the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa without breaking a sweat. Of course, it took a lot of practice and preparation, but it takes a strong will to pull that stunt. Tom is strong-willed, and we can see him swinging fearlessly in the clip below.
Tom’s stunts can make you doubt your sanity. The Burj Khalifa jump messed with Brad Bird. Speaking to New York Daily News, he said “One night, after one of the earliest shooting days, I bolted up in bed realizing that we had our star dangling about a mile up in the air on a thin wire and my brain was screaming, ‘What the hell are we doing?'” That’s what you get when you shoot a movie with Tom. He keeps your adrenaline pumping.
Tom Cruise shares his love for heights with fans and encourages others to share in this hobby of his. When the host of The Late Late Night Show, James Corden, thought cruise skydiving was a bluff, Tom set him up real good. He dared James Corden to skydive and followed up to ensure that James fulfilled the dare. The duo jumped from a plane soaring 15,000 feet above the ground in Perris Valley, Calif. Not that much of a big deal to Tom who jumped from an aeroplane flying 30,000 feet for the Mission Impossible stunt.
The two stars had fun while skydiving. They were filmed goofing around during the pre-briefing. However, Tom, who is more of the skydiving Pro, looks after James even when they are free falling. James was strapped to a tutor, but Tom did his fall by himself, constantly keeping tabs on James.
Lesson learnt: Never doubt Tom Cruise.
