Have you heard? The spanish song trend is back in pop music and everyone from Bieber to Drake is hopping on board. Is the British pop star Adele hopping on the Spain train too and speaking Spanish?
No, Adele does not speak Spanish. Adele only speaks one language and that language would be English. Despite that fact, there is at least one spanish cover out there of her music and from a quite famous group. Il Divo did cover Adele’s song Hello.
You can read more below about which British performers speak Spanish or have at least used the language in their music, as well as more on Spanish covers of Adele’s music.
What British Celebs Speak Spanish?
Even though Adele herself does not speak Spanish, there are a handful of British performers that do speak the language. Take for example, the renowned drummer and singer Phil Collins. In the late nineties, Collins composed the music for the Disney movie Tarzan. After the movie was released, it was revealed that Collins learned enough Spanish to compose the entire soundtrack in Spanish, as well as a few other languages.
The famed singer of the song Millenium, Robbie Williams, sang a Spanish song with Mexican singer Thalía. The duet was called Te quiero dijiste (Muñequita linda). Although not a singer, the actor Jason Isaacs speaks Spanish. He is most famous for the roles he has played in the Harry Potter Series as Lucius Malfoy, as well as Colonel William Tavington in the movie The Patriot.
A huge British pop celeb and idol of Adele herself, Geri Halliwell, speaks Spanish fluently. The singer, most famously known as Ginger Spice in the British pop group Spice Girls, is half-Spanish. Her mother, Ana Maria Hidalgo, was from the city Huesca. Huesca is located in north-eastern Spain in the province of the same name. Halliwell learned to speak Spanish at a young age when taught by her mother.
Spanish Covers of Adele’s Songs
Adele is famously hard to get permission from for cover songs. Like so many other artists, she even spoke out against US President Donald Trump’s use of her song Rolling in the Deep as part of his campaign warm up. A spokesperson for Adele confirmed to the BBC that “Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning.” It makes sense that she would not want to be linked to any political groups.
However, even for other famous artists, it has appeared to be difficult to attain permission to use her songs. Nonetheless, one group has been lucky enough to get her permission to do a cover of her song Hello.
Multinational group Il Divo asked Adele for permission to do a Spanish cover titled Hola of her song Hello. In a Good Morning Britain interview, group member Urs Buhler talks about how particular Adele is when someone wants to use her songs. He said “She has actually given us permission to do the Spanish adaptation as a translation we have made for it. Our version and even up to the video clip, she needs to give permission on everything. But we got it from her and I think that’s a big honor.”

Would Adele Ever Learn Spanish
Who is to say whether Adele would ever learn Spanish? She could be like the former Genesis member, Phil Collins, and learn enough to compose music in the latin language. Since Spanish is becoming quite popular in the world of pop music, it’s very possible she could.
Adele could even become inspired by her favourite Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell. Nevertheless, for now Adele appears to be sticking to English. Who knows though, maybe there will be a Spanish track on her next album.
