Some celebrities answer mail sent to them by their fans while others choose to be outside of contact. What about Ariana Grande?
Ariana Grande does not answer fan mail anymore. While she used to read and respond to everything she received, her rise to fame has made that a lot more difficult because of all of the fan mail she receives. She has also had to deal with stalkers now. However, she does sometimes respond to fans through her social media.
You can read more below about how Ariana Grande used to answer fan mail and why she has become less accessible to fans.
Ariana Grande’s P.O. Box
The ‘Side to Side’ singer used to be very adamant about reading and responding to every letter from her fans. She had a P.O. Box where her fans could send mail.
However, this was back in 2010 and 2011 when she wasn’t the massively famous pop star that she is today. At that time, she was playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon television show Victorious.
As one of the stars of a teen TV show, she had a smaller fan base. Her fans were mostly kids and young adults who watched her on the show.
This is in stark contrast to the massively popular star she has become today.
In 2010, she posted this comment to her Facebook Page for fan mail. “The address is: 265 S Federal Hwy Suite 331 Deerfield Beach, Fl 33441 xx, I love you. I read everything, and send things back!”
Then a year later, she posted again with the same address and commented “Going through my fan mail is one of the most fun things ever. I love what you guys write to me. It’s amazing and hilarious…”
In July of 2011, she also posted to her Twitter that she reads and replies to as much fan mail as she can. This seems to be the last time Ari ever really posted about answering her fan mail.
When a celebrity becomes as famous as Ariana Grande, they tend to have an assistant read and respond to their fan mail. Sometimes they will just respond to their fans by sending an autographed photo back.
Oftentimes, it is in a celebrity’s best interest to not go through their fan mail because it can be a safety risk. But why?
Celebrity Stalkers
Every once in a while a report comes out that an obsessed fan has turned into a stalker and followed a celebrity to their home. Sometimes they are harmless, but most of the time these fans are completely disillusioned.
You can watch the below video from Inform Overload that highlights the ‘Top 10 Craziest Celebrity Stalker Stories.’ Warning this video is not for people who are easily disturbed.
Something like this can be traumatizing for the star because it causes them to no longer feel safe in their home. There have even been instances where a fan turned stalker has attempted to murder the person of their obsession.
There are two big examples of this too. One was when the former member of The Beatles, John Lennon, was murdered by a fan outside of The Dakota in New York City on December 8, 1980.
Another would be in 1996 when a fan turned stalker sent a mail bomb to the Icelandic singer Björk. The bomb was intercepted before it reached her but the entire incident left the singer distressed.
It has been incidents like these that are why celebrities have security teams and often don’t read their fan mail themselves. Ariana Grande is no exception to that rule either.
Ariana Grande’s Stalkers
The ‘Boyfriend’ singer has had more than one stalker. In 2016, Teen Vogue reported that her longtime stalker since 2014 had pleaded guilty to criminal harassment.
The stalker, Timothy Normandin, was sentenced to three years of probation and told to stay away from Ariana. He had been following her around the United States and sending her unwanted texts and gifts, like a 42-pound pumpkin
In March of 2020, a crazed fan managed to sneak onto her personal property by following a delivery truck. He reportedly dug through her trash and then knocked on the front door of the house.
Ari’s manager answered and promptly called the police. When police showed up, the man spat at them and a ‘love note’ to Ariana was found on him.
Fidel Henriquez was later issued a permanent restraining order to stay at least 100-yards away from Ariana and her mother. It’s instances like these that often cause celebrities to stop answering fan mail.
