People continue to gain fame in Hollywood for being “triple threats” typically meaning that they can act, sing and dance. As Momoa can act and perform the haka dance, his fans have been wondering if he also has musical talent.
Jason Momoa does in fact have musical talent as he can play the guitar. He can often be seen on set playing guitar in his downtime. He can also play the drums and is learning to play piano and bass guitar. So, Jason Momoa can be considered a triple threat as he can act, dance and play various instruments.

Jason Momoa and Guitars
Jason Momoa started his career through modelling. When he was 19, Momoa won Hawaii’s Model of the Year Award and he hosted a beauty pageant, Miss Teen Hawaii.
Following the jumpstart from his modelling career, in the same year, he started his acting career by getting a role in Baywatch Hawaii. He has since been in 34 various projects on television and in film.
When he’s not acting or modelling, Momoa enjoys playing and collecting guitars. He says that growing up, his mother started his passion for music. His mother, Coni Lemke, was a photographer.
Momoa says that when he was growing up, he only listened to music—mostly heavy metal—because they could not afford any instruments.
Now, however, Momoa has a guitar collection. Among his collection is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul that was previously owned by Jimmy Page, the founder of and guitarist in the band Led Zepplin.
There are only 100 of those guitars in the world and Momoa’s is number 9. They are worth upwards of $700,000 normally, but since Momoa’s was previously owned by the rock star, it is likely worth much more.
Momoa is known to bring out his guitar, not the Les Paul though as it’s so expensive, and play it on the set of his films or television series.
There are plenty of videos of him playing guitar on the set of Aquaman in particular, still in his superhero costume. He bought the Gibson Les Paul in honor of getting the role as Aquaman, so it’s fitting that he played on set.
Jason Momoa’s Other Musical Talents
Not only can Jason Momoa play the guitar, but he has also been learning how to play the drums and piano. His 12 year old daughter, Lola, has been learning to play piano and Momoa has been learning with her to spend time together.
He was also inspired by his co-star on Aquaman, Patrick Wilson, to learn to play an instrument. In the film, Wilson played the supervillain Ocean Master (Orm Marius).
On set, Momoa learned that Wilson can play drums. So, Moma decided he needed to learn how to play bass to be able to “jam out” with Wilson.
As he was learning, Momoa added to his guitar collection by receiving a bass from one of his favorite musicians, Leslie Edward Claypool. Claypool is the founder, singer, bassist and only member of a funk metal band named Primus.
Claypool sent Momoa his personal bass guitar, a Pachyderm bass that Claypool designed himself. Momoa posted a video of him with the bass on his Instagram.
Part of his caption stated, “I’m so thankful and stoked 1 because we are friends and I love your family and 2 I grew up listening to Primus. I love the bass and I’m so honored to be able to play yours.”
He went on in the video to play one of Primus’ songs on the bass which he performs well.
It is clear that Momoa is very passionate about music as he not only has a guitar collection, but can play the guitar, bass, drums and piano.
