Having worn glasses in films such as The Devil’s Advocate (1997), Knock Knock (2015), and most recently Always Be My Maybe (2019), speculation has been rising amongst fans about whether the actor needs glasses in real life or not.
While Keanu Reeves does not need glasses, he certainly suits them, and can be seen fashioning various frames while playing his characters. In fact, the only person in his family that does wear glasses is his producer sister, Karina Miller, to who he proudly plays the role of supportive older brother.

Always Be My Maybe
Two top-rated movies in the same year, Keanu Reeves is said to have literally stepped straight off of the set of John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum (2019), onto a plane, and onto the set of entirely different, rom-com Always Be My Maybe to play no one other than himself. His first entrance is priceless, the typical dropped jaws, all eyes turned towards the door as he arrives, that you’d expect when 1994’s Sexiest Man Alive, Neo from The Matrix, walks into the room. Still as suave in the modern, black frames, as he was in the shaded spectacles and matching trench coat all those years ago, Sasha Tran was absolutely smitten with her new man, and rightly so.
According to Ali Wong, who plays Sasha Tran in the film, Keanu Reeves improvised a lot of his lines during this first scene. Even the lenseless glasses Reeves supposedly picked out for himself. But the specs that he had chosen had everyone wandering, does Keanu wear glasses? Since he was in fact playing himself…
Turns out, he doesn’t. Rather, Reeves thought it would be funny to wear the thick-framed, rather grandiose glasses, and that it would add to the eccentricity of his character (himself). “My eyes are perfect. This is for a part. They don’t even have lenses in them,” he explains to Marcus in the scene.
Karina Miller Wearing Glasses
Keanu Reeves has three younger sisters, two, Emma Reeves and Kim Reeves, do not wear glasses, the same as Keanu. However, Keanu’s half-sister Karina Miller, who is related to Reeves by mother Patricia Taylor, can be seen wearing glasses in all of her photos across social media channels. Karina is also in the movie business, a Hollywood film producer with three top-rated movies, The Big Ask (2013) and To The Bone (2017), and Semper Fi (2019).
Despite the 12-year age gap, the two have an irreplaceable bond having grown up together in Toronto, Canada, that is only made stronger by their joint love of the film and theatre industry. Even whilst at High School, when Katrina was directing productions that other students play-acted in, Reeves would come along to support her, she tells Entertainment Tonight. On Keanu Planet, one of many Keanu Reeves’ Facebook fan pages, the pair can be seen together walking into the premier of Miller’s most recent film, Semper Fi, at the ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood. In a quick interview Keanu kindly said that the film was a “great accomplishment” for his sister and a “wonderful film”.
Do Glasses Make People More Attractive?
Keanu Reeves’ glasses are purely for style, and as it’s clear to see, it’s working for him. So, this begs the question, do Reeve’s frames make him fundamentally more attractive? There is evidence to show that yes, they do. In 2011, the Swiss Journal of Psychology found that people who wear glasses “are viewed as more attractive and more likable.” In addition to this, according to Michael J. Brown, “eyeglass wearers also appear more honest, sophisticated, dependable, and industrious.”
Although Keanu doesn’t wear the glasses for his eyesight, he certainly makes use of them to spice up his characters, and can work quite a variety of frames at that. Check out the Twitter link below to see a smouldering Keanu, wearing glasses in films The Devil’s Advocate and Knock Knock.
