Kevin Bacon is a well-known actor who first appeared on our screens over 40 years ago, but does he have any siblings?
Kevin Bacon is one of six siblings. He has an older brother, the musician Michael Bacon, and four sisters named Karin, Elinor, Hilda and Kira (previously Prudence).

The Bacon Family
Kevin Bacon’s parents, architect Edmund Bacon and teacher Ruth Hilda Bacon (née Holmes), had six children. They were all born and raised in Chester County, Pa., which is a small artistic community close to Philadelphia.
Kevin’s only brother, Michael Bacon, is a singer-songwriter, musician and Emmy Award-winning TV and film composer. He is also a faculty member in music and lecturer at Lehman College in New York.
Karin Bacon, the eldest of the six Bacon siblings, is an events designer based in New York who creates immersive installation performance events.
Elinor Bacon is a real estate developer based in Washington, D.C. She established her own firm, E.R. Bacon Development in 2002.
Hilda Bacon has previously worked in fundraising, development and outreach for a number of organisations and currently manages a College Access Program in Philadelphia.
Kira Bacon is a fiber artist based in Vermont and works with the Vermont Arts Council to encourage participation in the arts.
The Bacon family was tight-knit and very creative when the siblings were growing up. In an interview with WGN News, Michael Bacon explained that their parents “valued creativity above everything else” and encouraged the Bacon children to take up hobbies in the arts.
With half of the six Bacon siblings having chosen careers directly based in the arts and the remaining half working in relatively creative industries and roles, it seems that their parents succeeded in passing on their passion for creativity.
The Bacon Brothers
In an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, Kevin Bacon revealed that if it wasn’t for his brother, he might well have become a musician rather than an actor, saying “it was kind of assumed that, since Michael was a musician, I should probably do something else”.
Both brothers, along with several other Bacon family members, were musical as youngsters. Michael performed in a duo with their sister, Hilda, and Kevin played percussion in a number of bands, one of which was coincidentally named Footloose.
Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael formed the musical group The Bacon Brothers in 1995 to perform at a charity event at the Theatre of Living Arts in their hometown of Philadelphia. Initially, they had no plans to continue performing together after this event, but The Bacon Brothers have performed an average of over 50 times a year since their debut in 1995.
Both Kevin and Michael sing and play the guitar as part of the duo The Bacon Brothers, in addition to sharing song-writing responsibilities.
Kevin Bacon is nine years younger than his older brother, Michael, so they each grew up with differing musical influences, both inside and outside of the home.
In the same interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, Michael revealed that he was always a very big folk music fan, until the Beatles and the British Invasion swayed him. Kevin, on the other hand, grew up post-British Invasion, so was less exposed to folk, broadway and jazz music than Michael.
The pair describe their genre of music to be a mix of folk, rock, soul and country. This description inspired the name of their first album, Forosoco, which was released in 1997.
In total, The Bacon Brothers have released seven studio albums. They have also performed on countless radio, TV and web programs and have embarked on a number of North American and European tours.
