Paul Rudd is largely known for acting, screenwriting, producing, and the fact that he’s not aged in over twenty years. The internet has been speculating for years about how Rudd maintains his boyish charm.
Rudd speaks eminently about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. He has given up smoking for good, and alcohol for some of his more demanding roles. In addition to giving these up, he credits exercise and nutrition in part for his immortal visage.
It’s been a running joke for years now that Rudd is an immortal being masquerading among us humans. Meme or not, there is an ongoing obsession with “the nicest guy in Hollywood”.
Preparing for Prospective Roles
Known for his wide range of roles, Rudd has disclosed that he is no stranger to adopting a new workout and diet regimen in order to fit a part. The broad spectrum of Rudd characters ranges from the sassy Josh in ‘Clueless’ to Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’.
In order to play a Marvel superhero, Rudd was subjected to a stricter regimen than ever before. He jokes about not being able to eat anything as far out as a year prior to filming:
It was in preparing for the role of ‘Ant-Man’ that he gave up alcohol for a year, in addition to doing a no-carb diet and very regular physical training. As of late, his youthful appearance has fans wondering how he’s managed to remain so boyish for over twenty years.
In this, he does imply that his giving up alcohol is a temporary fixture. He characterizes his extreme training for the ‘Ant-Man’ role as unsustainable over a longer period of time.
This immortal Rudd trend has spiraled into memes and trending Twitter posts. Many playfully accuse him of supernatural bargaining to achieve such a Dorian Gray-esque effect.
It is also highlighted in many publications that Rudd leads a relatively scandal-free lifestyle and has basically no social media. Perhaps, many posits, the reason for his graceful aging is a lack of stress tied to these causes.
Other Substances
In a segment on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with Andy Cohen, Rudd was outed by fellow actor Seth Rogen for smoking marijuana. The segment, called ‘Spill the Herbal Tea’, entailed Cohen listing off fellow actors, and Rogen answering whether he’s smoked with them or not.
When asked about Rudd, Rogen replied, “Oh yeah, lots of times.” This episode aired back in March of 2014, and there is good reason to surmise that this element of Rudd’s life has since changed.
An article published in June of 2020 states that Rudd is on the official list of celebrities who have successfully quit smoking. Rudd has provided testimonials for the Kerry-Gaynor Method in order to stop his habit.
This method is a hypnotherapy based behavior modification, which has become wildly popular with Rudd and many other celebrities. There are articles as far back as 2018 that cite Rudd as having successfully quit smoking.
Even with a relatively clean record, Rudd is not shy about cracking a joke in reference to drugs. On the set of ‘Wanderlust’, Rudd’s character goes to live in a commune, and predictably, hilarity ensues.
When questioned about what audiences can expect from this film in terms of drug content, Rudd commented: “We actually smoked peyote offset a lot,” then added, “Actually, do you smoke peyote or do you take it? I don’t know.”
He denotes in this that while he doesn’t mind creating comedy about drugs, perhaps he isn’t the most experienced with them.
Moving Forward
While Rudd had no qualms about utilizing comedy to discuss drugs and alcohol, all signs seem to indicate that moving forward, he won’t personally be involved with them to an extreme degree.
Moving into his more serious roles means that he is a little more restricted, trim, and polished than before; however, as a notoriously private person, he maintains that any struggles he carries generally stay behind closed doors.
