This singer, songwriter, and actress has had great success throughout her career, with three hit solo albums, an extensive acting career, and becoming a television producer of fan-favorite shows. But does Gomez do it all while needing glasses?
Selena Gomez sometimes wears glasses. Gomez has been farsighted since she was little and wore glasses for a time before switching to contacts. Now, she often wears contacts in the place of glasses, and sometimes does not wear corrective lenses at all.
Read on to find out more about Gomez’s farsightedness, and other Hollywood stars who need glasses, too.
Gomez’s Corrective Lenses
Gomez found out that she was farsighted when she was very young. What’s interesting about farsightedness is that, if the prescription isn’t too dramatic, many farsighted people can easily forgo corrective lenses and their eyesight will be fine, unless they have to read or look at something up close.
When she was younger, she might have been able to not wear contacts or glasses without much trouble, but as people get older, their eyesight gets worse. While Gomez does have prescription glasses, she often wears contacts when she needs them instead.
Some of Gomez’s fans have put together this Twitter thread, showing the many different glasses that Gomez owns, from aviators to retro frames and including many styles of sunglasses. Many of her sunglasses are not prescription, as they have rose or blue-colored lenses and are used as fashion accessories, meaning she either wears contacts beneath them or no corrective lenses.
The sunglasses from this post must not be prescription, as she gave them to a little kid as a joke and he looked adorable in them. As Gomez laughed after seeing him in her sunglasses, “Oh, my gosh.”
Over time, Gomez has gotten more relaxed about wearing her prescription glasses in public, even posting pictures of her wearing them on her Instagram account, which is now the sixth-most followed account in the world, and the fifth-most followed person, with over 180 million followers.

Disney Celebrities with Glasses
Gomez and Demi Lovato had very similar backgrounds when they were growing up, and have been longtime friends since they both began their acting careers on Barney & Friends when they were just seven years old.
A picture of the cast from their time on the show features Lovato on the left side of Barney in a blue striped shirt, while Gomez is to Barney’s right in a pink striped shirt. Another thing that the two have in common is their need for glasses.
Lovato’s glasses are featured in the picture, and as she became older and more successful, she decided to switch over to mostly contacts, just as Gomez did.
The two took on Barney & Friends together, and guest-starred on various Disney Channel shows around the same time, too, before they successfully got lead roles in their own shows.
Many stars who were featured on Disney shows at the same time as Gomez and Lovato need glasses as well. Ashley Tisdale is one of the glasses and contact wearing stars, known for her roles as Sharpay in High School Musical, and Maddie from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
Vanessa Hudgens is another High School Musical star who often wears contacts instead of glasses, and she also co-starred in Spring Breakers with Gomez alongside Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, and James Franco.
Known as Bailey Pickett, Cody’s longtime girlfriend on The Suite Life on Deck, the star of 16 Wishes, and lead of Jessie, Debby Ryan is another Disney star who needs glasses and mainly wears contacts.
While many stars seem used to wearing contacts in the place of glasses, these actresses and singers prove that both styles look good.
