Vanessa Hudgens is known for her many talents–powerful vocals, fun dance moves, and acting talent, as well as for being an athlete through her hobbies like hiking, boxing, and yoga. But can this Hollywood star swim?
Vanessa Hudgens does know how to swim. Hudgens has had film and TV roles in which she’s had to swim, and is often spotted at beaches or other locations surfing, boogie boarding, and more, all of which require swimming knowledge.
Read on to find out more about Hudgens’s roles with swimming parts, how she spends her free time and other interesting facts about her life.
Swimming Scenes
This Californian star was raised along the West Coast, often frequenting beaches as she was growing up. Hudgens has proved her comfort in the water in her daily life as well as during certain film roles.
Hudgens often has photoshoots taking place in pools, as well as just hanging out and swimming in them. In posts like this one, she and her friends are swimming, while this one is taken from one of her photoshoots.
In the movies that brought her into stardom, the High School Musical movies, she had to swim while playing Gabriella Montez. This was true especially in High School Musical 2, in which Gabriella took a summer job as a lifeguard and had many scenes filmed in a pool.
High School Musical 2 is also where confusion about Hudgens’s ability to swim may have begun. It was Monique Coleman, who played Taylor McKessie, who didn’t know how to swim.
At the time that High School Musical 2 was filmed, Coleman was afraid of water so she couldn’t learn how to swim. So in the scene where she was supposed to jump into the pool, she danced on the side with Corbin Bleu’s character, Chad Danforth, instead.
Another point of confusion was the scene in which Hudgens’s character tries to save Sharpay Evans, played by Ashley Tisdale, from drowning. In the scene, there’s a clear switch to Hudgens’s stunt double diving into the pool, which may have led viewers to believe that Hudgens didn’t swim at all during the scene.
It actually was Hudgens swimming to and from Tisdale’s character in the pool, despite the switch to a stunt double for diving into the pool. The native Californian has plenty of experience on West Coast beaches as well as others.
Hudgens has gone on various beach-front vacations that no doubt involve swimming, as well as learning how to surf on a trip to Bali. She talked about how they took a boat to get to the waves as well as her overall experience, saying, “We didn’t have to paddle out, which was nice. That is one of the most exhausting parts about surfing… I was pretty stoked about that.”
What are some other activities that Vanessa Hudgens enjoys?
Hudgens’s Career and Hobbies
Hudgens is known for her work in hit films and theatrical productions, utilizing her acting, singing, and dancing skills. With the minimal free time the star has, she does many different activities.
To keep herself busy and in shape, the star loves to focus on cardio and is a big fan of SoulCycle and other cycling classes as well as Pilates and yoga. Yoga is also a way that she de-stresses and lets her relax.
She also hikes and loves to take different fitness classes. “I try to take one of these classes whenever I can, whenever my schedule allows it. Normally, that doesn’t allow for seven days. I would do seven days if I had time. I love starting my day off that way because sometimes I’ll have a less productive day and if I’ve gotten a workout in, then I feel like I’m accomplished no matter what.”
